/v/, 4chan in general, was entirely about acting stupid with stale jokes that no one laughed at unless you used them in a clever way.
It was great. It encouraged people to make new content and it encouraged discussion that wasn't just "WELL I HATE THE THING YOU LIKE SO FUCK YOU".
2011-2012 was unsalvagable entirely because people from communities that were dying came over here, took the irony seriously, and took up the "YEAH I HATED EVERYTHING BEFORE IT WAS COOL" like a bunch of prepube teenagers trying to fit in.
/v/ has never recovered, those teenagers remain, there are some in this thread.
Being a bitter faggot was never what /v/ was meant to be about and the fact that we think that's 'cool' to hate everything is proof that the average age on /v/ can't be older than 18.

neo-/v/ is the era past that. Now a bunch of people pretending to be old /v/ while harboring festering emotional hatred over the fact they have to share /v/ with people who have different opinions than they do. So instead of rationalizing it to themselves they just act like shitty people and drag down every thread.
I actually remember going on /v/ and seeing the threads for when Sonic was revealed.
