Yes. You sacrifice some realism for the sake of gameplay. If shotguns were as effective in shooters as in real life, nobody but sniperfags would use anything but shotguns.

I can thing of two modern games which featured several weapons and weapon categories and had a balanced assault rifle among all the other weapons, everything else has matched this stupid shit that makes them the best and easiest guns by far.

this is actually correct depending on the caliber. Bigger rounds tend to move slower.
