I actually broke a PS4 controller the other day while farming in Dark Souls 2. I was farming for a couple of hours for a certain armor set, but the fuckers kept dropping goddamn leggings or consumables. And if course thhey stopped spawning, so I had to use a few bonfire ascetics. I think my mistake in the OP was saying I smashed controllers, which isn't true. I didn't pick up a hammer and pound them into dust or anything silly like that.
What happened last time I "smashed" a controller was that I stood up and dropped it and let it fall about 5 feet (I'm 6'4") and walked out of the room and it hit the ground (hardwood floor) and cracked where the left trigger was.
I tried to fix it but ended up wrecking it so I had to buy a new one.

While I've personally never destroyed a controller myself, I too have felt the urge to lash out and control it. It's understandable - when you get mad you need an outlet, and you're holding something at the time. The natural impulse is to toss it.
It's part of human flaw to get mad at video games. If you haven't gotten mad, you've never been all that into games in the first place, since you can only get mad if you have some devotion.
