Helldivers thread?
I haven't had this much fun in a long time

I've got a couple of research tokens, but I was wondering what I should focus on first

Liberator is my raifu
>>
I've played 30 minutes, the m&kb controls are so artocious that I'll probably get refund.
I love top down shooters to death but these controls are unaccepatble.
>>
Getting anti-armour is essential. Look for the Recoilless rifle or the AT/flamer mech.

>doing the Bug boss
>Dives underground and reappears to mulch you, does the odd charge across ground
>bigger and badder fodder start to come out as we slowly whittle his health away
>heavy infantry fags that spit poison and tentacle rape bugs are out
>Guys dying left and right
>several time we teamwipe but get respawned because the last guy dropped a beacon as he died
>spend about 20minutes just respawning each other
>finally kill him
>all we get is a larger xp pool than normal
Fun, but goddamn they could at least have given some fucking research points.
>>
The Justice is probably the best overall rifle. All you really need to get by are ammo packs and the recoilless rifle. Exos, turrets etc are optional.

There are some really overpowered abilities like the distraction beacon, but they suck the fun out of the game.

Why not use a controller?
>>
>>319992473
I don't like using controllers for any kind of shooters, same way I don't like using racing wheels in fighting games.
>>
>>319992714
You don't like having two analog sticks for a twinstick shooter?
>>
>>319991954
What M&KB is literally superior to controller controls. What's your problem with it?
>>
Can someone give me a quick heads up on the DLC? There seems to be so much of it.
What's good, what's bad, what's mandatory?
>>
>>319991954
>>319992473
>>319992714
>>319992775
M+K controls are okay. Sometimes movement can be abit fucky. It's funny watching people with controllers struggle to drive the tank.
>>
>>319992790
No mouselook like in almost every other topdown shooter in existence and dissapearing crosshair.
>>
>>319992983

Both of those are deliberate design choices but fair enough if you don't like it.
>>
>>319993102
The devs say they did this to make it harder for m&kb people, but this is the shittiest way of balance.
Just make AI more agressive, accurate and overall harder to overcome instead of gimping the fucking controls.
>>
Played quite a bit and having a blast, but I wish they had more diverse objectives, most of it is just go to thing and do some stepmania shit or get thing and bring it to place.
>>
>>319993276

My problem with the game is that the hardest difficulty just isn't hard enough.
>>
>>319992983
this >>319993102
Also allows you to turn and reaim faster if you get good with it.
>>
>>319991359
Is the add-on dlc quick unlocks or their own characters?

>>
Looks fun as fuck. Do i need friends to play it?
>>
>>319993836

You can play with randoms but the real fun is with friends. Solo is pretty boring.
>>
>>319993239
it takes 10 seconds to adapt to this, if you suck so much no wonder you dont like it.
>>
>>319993934
>adapting to a shitty way of controls because the devs don't know shit about balancing

No.
The WASD movement directly hampers the initial aim direction due to being not analog, which could be easily fixed by making aim direction depended from the mouse which is basicly a superior analog stick, just like any other top down shooter does.
>>
>>319994242

>The WASD movement directly hampers the initial aim direction due to being not analog

I'm not really sure what your issue is here. Aiming and character movement are already independent. The only difference is that you can't fire while in regular motion, which is a balancing thing.
>>
>>319993482
anybody knows this? I'm interested in the game but fuck dlcs
>>
>>319994451

The DLCs unlock gear for you straight away.
>>
>>319994518
That didn't answer the question.
>>
>>319994672

Your question makes no sense.
>>
>>319994727
Does the DLC add items that's not in the game or does it just quick unlock items for lazy people?
>>
played it for 3 days but it got boring
>>
>>319994897

The DLC gives you new gear and abilities that are not available in the base game AND it unlocks the gear straight away.
>>
>>319995037
Thank you Anon.
>>
>>319995037
I believe it is also worth noting that the dlc are usually side grades, or in many cases inferior to base game gear.
>>
>>319995183

Not in all cases. The Sickle is easily one of the best guns in the game.
>>
>>319995276
Breaker is way more versatile and outclasses it when fully upgraded.

Knight SMG best against illuminate
>>
>>319995345

I would place Justice above both of those but fair enough.

I still think the DLC should be unlocked by level. It makes the early game completely trivial.

The only thing that needs to be fixed is to make the mouse visible at all times, be it while aiming or not. I'm getting tired of right clicking to aim at a target while being attacked only to see my character aiming at a completely different direction, even though I intuitively moved my mouse towards them before aiming, where I'd guess it would be.
>>
Can we get a group for this going or something?

Autistic or not, I need people to play with that I can rely on to shitpost about it later.

Keep dreaming, its a wonder they ported it
>>
>>319996407

The problem is that the cursor position resets to your characters location every time you let go, so you need to right click - and then aim in the direction you want to.

Almost all twinstick shooters do it the other way around, your cursor always visible and fixed, and you always snap to aim to where it is when you press the aim button.

So its sucky and bad, I opted to use a controller instead, have to say throwing nades and such is much easier now too.

That's a silly comparison, the Breaker is a completely different gun.

I don't personally use the sickle, but it's inarguably one of the best in the game.
>>
>>319992934
I think most of the DLC packs provide fun tools for different situations. But, here's a quick rundown:
>Ranger Pack
Recommended. The Camper rounds out your arsenal well, and the UAV lets you upgrade stuff much more quickly.
>Commando Pack
I don't think the Ninja is very good compared to the other SMGs, but the Commando is a worthy addition. It's my favorite tool for dealing with bug heavies.
>Defender Pack
Recommended. Both of the gear options can be useful. The suppressor's a little harder to use than most guns, but very effective. The guard dog is nice for keeping hounds and other small fry off of you.
>Support Pack
The Angel is so-so, maybe more attractive if you like to play the medic. The Sickle is one of the most efficient weapons in the game.
>Specialist Pack
Eh. The Tanto is a Scythe packed into an SMG form factor, with all the expected benefits and drawbacks. Close Air Support is a Strafing Run with higher caliber machineguns and a couple armor-piercing missiles.
>Hazard Ops
The Avenger is mostly just a spin on the flamethrower (though with the added benefit of being able to melt Bug heavies). The Paragon is okay, but as far as ARs go you can do better.
>Pilot Pack
Like its vanilla variant, the arc shotgun is worthless, and the Obsidian has really limited utility.
>Demolition Pack
Recommended. The stalwart and demolisher are both great weapons.
>Pistols Perk Pack
Avoid. It would be a lot better if you could actually swap out your main pistol for one of the new ones, but instead they came as perks.
>Entrenched
Most of the stuff in this is highly situational. You'll know after playing for a while if it suits your style.
>Vehicle Pack
Recommended. The Hammer is fun, but worthless. The Lumberer is hands down the best mech in the game. The Bastion is good all-rounder.
>Weapons Pack
Recommended. All three weapons are highly effective, though not beginner friendly.
>>
>>319998161
continued:

>Precision Expert Pack
Only if you're big on call-ins. These are more niche, specialized versions of abilities that come with the vanilla game.
>Terrain Specialist
Also very specialized. You'll know whether you want it after you've played for a while.
>>
>>319998161
The Dum-Dum from the Weapons pack is definitely my go-to vs. Illuminates these days, downs illusionists faster than 4 guys shooting them with regular rifles
>>
>>319999697
Aye. The DumDum completely embarrasses illusionists and council members, as well as brood commanders.

If you're quick and accurate enough, it can even kill bug impalers (those tentacle guys) before they can retract their tentacles. It might actually the most damaging main gun in the game on a per-shot basis.
>>
>>319999849
>>319999697
It's just an autocannon. The EAT/RL-112 do more damage per-shot, but the autocannon excells against illuminate because their shields absorb 100% of any damage before going down, making burst damage trash. You need sustained damage like multiple rockets, autocannons, or LMGs to kill them.

The HAV's cannon does the most damage, it's fucking stupidly good.
>>
>>320000016
>main gun

I'm not talking about stratagems.
>>
>>320000016
I think the main thing is that you don't need to pierce heavy armor when fighting illuminates, so you're free to forgo the recoilless/EATs with no downside. The HAV is also a bitch to take against Illuminates because if you move at all you risk getting fucking bisected by a wall
>>
My idiot friends and I just unlocked the illuminate boss but failed to kill him.

I used the shield to negate the confusion effect and from this thread I gathered the DumDum being useful. Any other tips?
