I've played new order and old blood, there is no in-depth technology behind the rag-doll/death animations.
Not entirely recent per se, but Brutal Doom won't fuck your computer and it's glorified FPS greatness with no bullshit. No advanced tactics involved though in the gameplay.
I'm not sure if they're on Steam but the older Rainbow Six games can probably run fine on your computer and actually offer some tactical-like gameplay.
