It had the worst, most horribly grating final bossfight I've ever experienced and it was way too short. Fantastic game though, it would have been perfect with at least 1.5 times as many levels as well as a second playthrough as Knuckles (modern knux gets punching and classic gets wall climb and glide.)

It's a terrible game but actually has a pretty good morality system that I'd consider unrivaled to this day. It's a damn shame how fucking horrid the way you progressed through morality was, because practically everyone just got pure neutral.

The game would've been significantly better if they cut out levels from the later games and added more of the classic stages, especially since most of the classic stages are infinitely more engaging, visually.

Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary in 3D were fucking rad, but on the flip side, the classic versions of all of the 3D games kinda sucked, save maybe for City Escape.

Someone probably thought that they had to make up for Sonic 06 somehow, so they probably took what was probably the most glitchiest and least optimized stage and made it playable.

Whatever the reason was, Kingdom Valley should have been in Sonic 06's spot.

Sonic Generations plays great, and some of the stages are really fun. But with so many not-Green Hills, and so many City stages, even their variety and fanservice doesn't save the game from feeling a bit samey at times. Combine this with the godawful Planet Wisp and the Time Eater and the game sort of peters out rather badly. The 3DS version of the game tried to be Sonic Rush but it was forgettable, and the Classic Sonic stages in the Genesis era were even 1:1 recreations of old levels for some dumb reason. Then they gave Classic Sonic the Homing Attack, which doesn't help differentiate the two.

The game had a sense of feeling rushed, like there was supposed to be more to it, or even just more story, but then they said 'fuck it' and wanted an anniversary game quickly. At least it didn't turn out like Sonic '06.

The 3d stages have 2d segments in them which defeats the whole point.

2d platforming in sonic is inherently flawed (It kills your momentum, and sonic is all about momentum, and it's impossible to be going at full speed and to react to stuff without already knowing where it's gonna be) so half (more then half actually because see above) the game has some big flaws gameplay wise.

Combining old Sonic with new didn't fix anything. Old Sonic had a better design and made the new one look worse.

Oh and Sonic games have never been good so going retro for half the game didn't solve the shitty gameplay problems.
