Why are Sci-fi bounty hunting games so doomed to fail?

Does it seem too risky to sell or something? Surely it's unique enough to gain attention

Publishers doesn't want anything risky

This. Nobody takes risks anymore, that's why the industry is so shit.

Shame. A Star Wars game that isn't "You are super special jedi" would be a breath of fresh air

Good sci-fi requires solid world building. Not just lorewise, but what you actually see and interact with.
That requires a lot of work and won't always perform well on consoles.

Breh I was so pumped for 1313, played the shit out of bounty hunter on ps2 but then disney came along and "lol cutting funding 4 u, let's just sell battlefront licence to EA and make money that way"

Being "just another jedi/force adept" in a game with a 10/10 character creation would be great. The issue is that character in games like you described become too important and powerful in too short a time. Not enough adventures and proving yourself.

Just going around in a almost cyberpunk underground Coruscant hunting aliens would be so good.

I personally loved levels on the Citadel in Mass Effect for that reason, sci-fi is too often used for beautiful vistas on foreign planets and not the seedy underbelly of super cities

Same reason you rarely see thievish types, or mages as the hero in fantasy.
