What are some good exclusives that I should pick up. Are there any good JRPGs for it?

Yes OP, there are plenty of weeb games next year for the PS4, and a lot of PS3 ports running at 60fps/1090p on the PS4, so it's not that big of a deal if you skipped a PS3 and want current games.

There's also all the PS3/Vita/PS4 combo titles Japan did this past year that are coming to PS4 only. Japanese sales were 3:1 PS4 vs PS3 so aside from some old ass stuff taking forever to translate, PS3 is done in Japan.

He mentioned he was interested in Bloodborne. PS3 doesn't have bloodborne. PS3 won't have 1/6th of next year's new Jrpgs/jap games in general. The PS4 will have all of 2016 PS3 releases as far as I'm aware, such as Persona5 and StarOcean5 (which comes out on PS3 only in japan)

Watch it on youtube, or rent and play with friends. It's almost literally a movie. Don't pay anything close to full price. It was a fun 2-day experience to play with friends.

Walking simulator. Incredibly overhyped. The story wasn't as spectacular as most say it was. Outcomes were predictable and it only picked up towards the very end. Gameplay is good but very scarce, you'll be walking and talking and moving ladders most of the time. The online is great though, since it's all about the gameplay. Don't know how populated it is now, it's been a while.

It really isn't if you play it on higher difficulties. I don't get this kind of complaint. If you are interested only in character development and don't care about thinking or dying then play in easy/normal. If you like a challange, like you are implying, then play on the hardest difficulty, it really changes the way you approach the game

It's not cheap plus wouldn't be allowed to be sold overseas without dealing with the ESRB/PEGI and taxes. The cheaper option most companies use is to create a company in the target country and just have the profits distributed back as stock at the end of the year and let the 10 person office deal with day to day costs.

Regardless of difficulty, you easily spend more than 60% of the time either wandering, moving objects to continue wandering, or watching cutscenes. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is pretty good. But it's pretty scarce, because they focus a lot on story. The online really is great though, ignoring the pay2win OP weapon bullshit

With that out of the way, if console buying is some ordeal where you have to meticulously budget it's worth directly with how many games you can play just on that console, you shouldn't be attempting to own more than one platform at all. There is no agreed upon number of exclusives to where $400 magically makes sense. You either want to play a game(s) bad enough or you don't.

Fallout 4 on PS4 is the worst thing I have ever played. Drops to 10 FPS sometimes when looking at fire.
Witcher 3 is at 20 - 30 FPS if you're lucky.

At the highest difficulty you actually spend more time in combat because you need to approach it way more cautiously, it more than doubles your playtime.
But yes on its heart it's a story driven game, doesn't pretend not to be one. It just so happens that you make make your first experience fun.
Telltale's S1 of walking dead gets a lot of praise and yet lacks any sort of meaningful gameplay. I think TLoU has a better character driven story and at the same time fun gameplay for the ride. It's one of the few decent "cinematic experience" games.

I got a 3DS for only 1 franchise, monster hunter, got hundreds of hours of gameplay out of it and I was a happy buyer.
That's how any investment works. Even building a powerful PC isn't a sure-fire investment for everyone, as the only thing it "unlocks" are high-end games, most of which you can get on the PS4 too. I have a high end PC for work purposes so I'm able to play XCOM2 when it comes out, but I'm just as glad for owning a PS4 because pratically all jap games are comming for it.

MGSV looks a hell of a lot better than Fallout 4. Yet it just doesn't fucking work. Literally 10 - 20 FPS walking around, if I look at fire or smoke, bam, absolutely nothing until I move 30 feet away from it.
Witcher 3, fine, it's one of the best looking games and demanding as fuck even on PC. 20 FPS during combat.

Any DICE game works and runs the same on the PS4 nowadays, Battlefield isn't restricted to half the playercount and mapsize anymore and runs at 60fps, same thing for Battlefront. You only get 900p but on the other hand you only spend 350$ to play them
No one gets a PS4 expecting it to outperform a PC, that's not the point. Bloodborne is 30fps but a fantastic game nontheless. Nier ran like shit but it was one of the most memorable last gen experiences. Same thing for Dragon'sDogma, loved it so much I'm buying it for a second time on the PC.
MonsterHunter and EtrianOdyssey run at 240p, but they're still fantastic games I would never drop because of performance.
60fps/1080p is not the be-all-end-all option. I personally would rather not have to wait years for games I'm highly anticipating and play them at 30fps on release instead.
Half-life and other classics aren't shit games now just because you played them at a shitty rez on a CRT monitor, probably not even at 60fps.

I have a good PC, and the only game I've gotten for PS4 is Bloodborne, and I can't find another game I want for it, even though my tastes are very diverse.
Things should look better at the end of the next year, but this is still the only console purchace I've ever regretted
