Pseudo-intellectual horseshit packaged as "innovative" when it's more of the same we've already seen a multitude of times. Couple that with a "LE QUIRKY GLASSES MAN XDD" main character which, ironically, completely lacks character, and you have a bland, forgettable shitheap of a game that simply can't hold up in the modern industry.
No wonder so many plebs on /v/ like it.
Portal might also have been a factor. fitting it into Half-Life's canon was a mistake.

That's because it was one of the last true video games, that's why people like it. It's on par with Resident Evil 4 in the sense that the story revolves around gameplay and not the other way around, that's exactly how it's supposed to be, the gameplay is the most important thing and story is mostly just an after thought.
