I've disassembled just about every console there has been (with the exception of the current gen systems, too expensive). Something really stands out about Nintendo:

They were a toy company first.

Sony made consumer electronics. Things you'd put on a shelf and never touch. Microsoft made software. Nintendo... they made toys.

Every switch, every knob, every controller port... these things are triple reinforced. Construction on anything that a kid might pull push or tug on is second to none.
>>
>>319874663

How the fuck did you manage to destroy N64 cartridges?
Those thing are fucking durable.
>>
>>319874675
but the 360 is less sturdy.

Your example doesn't work here

>cartridges not working half the time and having to blow into them constantly
You see, this is how I know you're lying. People only had to blew in them after they were missing for months under the bed or dropped in sand or whatever. After 20 years I give my cartridges a swift breath and they still work perfectly and I have never had a cartridge not work.
So you are lying - or you are a really, really, dirty person.

I hate when people complain about modern electronics being fragile.

It's like a caveman going up to a modern day soldier and going "haha, u gun jam and break, me rock good forever"

But most modern electronics aren't that fragile. Look how far fucking phones have come. Look at the Wii U: That thing can survive a fall from like 5 feet and it's supposed to be completely stationary.

>They were a toy company first.

You're oh so wrong. Nintendo sold their consoles as Toys as a market move to avoid being lumped together with the oversaturated eletronics market that led to the crash of 85. They've been a TV and card game company in the past, but since the 70s they always made videogames.

Even considering that, there's no reason for today consoles to be so fragile. You'd say they're "more complex", but this just means they have a different transistor table in the same space. They are less durable because the actual cases have shit quality and its internal circuits are made cutting costs everywhere. It's cheaper to ship a bad product that only breaks under certain conditions than to make it foolproof.

Yup, they sold card games and stuff. 50 years ago they dealt with TV, instant food and heck, even motels. To say they have "speshul techneeks" to make resistant consoles thanks to they making toys 100 years ago is laughable.

xbox 360 has thin outer layer of plastic and weighs a shit ton more

Somehow I managed to do that. Fixed one, other one still pending.

If it were lighter, you could actually call it a tank. If you drop it from a high place it'll split in half under its own weight.
>>
>>319875953

What's the point of having all this awesome technology when the damn thing is twice as likely to fuck up through no fault of your own?

I mean, for christ's sake, the 360 had a near 50% failure rate, nearly twice as high as either the PS3 or the Wii, and that was when it first launched.
>>
>>319874760
Nah I never had one but my cousins did and they never fucking worked half the time. I don't know how seeing as they never played it.
>>
>>319877768

n64 also didn't spontaneously break five times in a row after it was "fixed."

I'd take 80% plastic if it means that I'm spending more time playing games than waiting for M$ to get off their asses and fix the damn thing six weeks later.

Ah the days when you could buy a game and know you're getting the whole package and know that the game would have little to no game breaking bugs.

Let's go back in time a bit, in the spirit of discussion. If removing the online capabilities of the Xbox and Playstation 2 would prevent the horseshit video game situation we face these days, would you go ahead with it?

That would mean no Halo 2 online, no online of whatever Playstation had at the time (the only thing I can think of is Metal Gear Solid Online) and gaming would be different in ways that we couldn't guess.

The only guaranteed result of no online is no online play resulting in video game not going mainstream and no dlc for games. Would it be worth losing the games we have and enjoy now?
>>
>>319878759
if there was no online i wouldnt have wasted 8 years of my life in front a screen.

I got a game off ebay once, I know that was a mistake, and it had this weird crusty shit on the connector pins, a leaf, and what I think was a cobweb. Anyway, I cleaned it with methylated spirits and an ear cleaner and it worked fine. Bottom line is, you don't even have to look after them and they'll work. Don't blow on them, by the way, that's fucking stupid.
>>
>>319878759
>the game would have little to no game breaking bugs

To be fair, the vast majority of games today still have little to no game breaking bugs. Some publishers may be happy with performance problems and glitches up the ass but a game actually being released in a broken state is as rare today as it was back in the "good old days".
>>
>>319878891

>>
>>319879376
Diablo 3, SimCity, Batman: Arkham Knight, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Grand Theft Auto Online, Driveclub, Battlefield 4, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Skyrim.

You're not exactly convincing me. You're right that some publishers release working games, but don't tell me that broken games getting released are a rare thing. Some of the above suffered from online issues that prevented players from playing, but when the online is the main portion of the game such as in Diablo 3's case, it is an issue nonetheless.
