Do you ever see people getting mad (on /v/, usually) about things in games that absolutely do not bother you at all?
>>
I think downgrade graphics.

i just don't mind to be honest.
>>
Cinematic
If they bother you so much you can skip it FFS

All the time
>I'd play these [console exclusives] if they weren't on that piece of shit console!
Nigga what. A console is always only as good as its games. If you'd like the games you'd like the console. It's not fucking rocket science.
>>
Head-shots not being a one-hit-kills. Even accounting for the game/genre and the logic inside it, it doesn't bother me.
>>
>>319859830
Yep, performance optimisation is important too.

Personally, linearity doesn't bother me in games. I think the attitude has changed here since a few years a go but the word linear used to be used like it was a synonym for bad.
>>
Boss marathons

Nothing gets me more pumped than those but you wouldn't believe how much some people whine about them.
>>
>>319859757
Regenerating health in FPS. Instead of running back and forth between health packs, I can stick around in the middle of a firefight for longer, and trying to hide from enemies while at max red jelly vision adds more tension than simply being boned for being at low HP.
>>
Game Length.

I've been playing Mushihimesama every day since the fall sale and it owns, game is like 30 minutes long.

One of my favorite games is Silent Hill 2 which is like 5 hours if you savor it.
>>
>>319860089
Are they the same people who actually think bosses are too video-gamey? Like do people like that actually exist?
>>
>>319859757
I often wish that when it is the buying than not. It is just me tho :/
>>
>>319859981
>If you'd like the games you'd like the console. It's not fucking rocket science.

This. You don't buy a console untill it has a good amount of games you want to play making the investment worth it. You buy the system for the games you want to play.
>>
>>319860089
Wait, people hate boss rushes?
Why?

It's especially satisfying when the bosses haven't been tweaked since you first fought them and you can realize just how far you've progressed by how easily you shit on them now.
>>

Day 1 dlc, pre-order bonuses, censorship, etc.
/v/ is full of autistic man babies, I come here for the dank memes.
>>
>>319859981
That literally does not make sense. A console is not defined only by its exclusives, but by it's hardware, online subscription, etc. Maybe people really like the game that's on a console, but that doesn't mean they have to like the console because it can't have free online services and be limited to sometimes below 1080 60fps.
>>
>>319859757
Fallout 4 (and before that, Mass Effect and Dragon Age) dialogue wheel. I actually enjoy not knowing beforehand the exact phrase my character will say, just the general tone. Maybe it's because I don't make myself as a character in these games.
>>
"movie games" like Last of Us. I frankly love roller coaster ride games. I just hate when reviewers act like this is the "new direction" for games and they should all be like that. I also don't mind walking simulators when they're pretty to look at (NaissanceE comes to mind)
>>
>>319860395
Those dialogue wheels are shit. If I'm playing an RPG I want my character to say things I make him say, not take wild guesses at how it'll turn out and then end up glassing people.

Deus Ex Human Revolution did dialogue wheels right. It gives you the exact phrase Jensen's going to say with the exact intonation he'll use. This is the kind of shit I want. Not "Sarcastic". Sarcastic what? Sarcastic who? About what?
>>
>>319859981
>If you'd like the games you'd like the console.
No?
I deeply depise Microsoft and by extension their Xbox because of their initial statement that they are going to simply buy the top spot at the console market, because they are Microsoft and they can buy anything.
I don´t dislike the design, the capabilities, the games, I disliked the original controller because it was hand mutilating shit..., but in general I loathe the Xbox because it signifies M$´s attitude to make their product a success by simply outspending their competitors, not by making a fucking good console.
Now I´m not saying that the 360 wasn´t possibly better than the PS3, or that the PS4 is undineibly better than the xBone, but that they might have been better was a byproduct of microsoft money being flooded into the console market, not their intention, and for that I will never not loathe microsoft and their consoles.
>>
>>319860395
>[glass him]

sorry, but that's fucking stupid

whether you're roleplaying or not, people want to have a general idea of what their character is going to say or do, and it's especially insane when you don't know if it's going to be a benign action, or stab him in the face
>>
>>319859981
>If you'd like the games you'd like the console.
I liked the games of the 360 but the console was a broken piece of shit. I was reduced to stealing new consoles via retail swap because the things had such bad quality control.
>>
>>319860634
Thanks for proving my point about how assblasted people are about this, bro.
As I said I like treating the game like book or a movie, where I'm discovering the MC's motivations as I go along, and I only gently guide them along a particular path, instead of imposing upon them every action I take.
For example I liked that the game didn't give you a choice about fighting Kellogg and that the MC was thirsting hard for his blood.

>Everyone says Xenoblade's an off-line MMO
>Dreading the worst
>Eventually play it
>It's actually super fun

I knew better when X was coming out and everyone was doing the "OFF-LINE MMO!" song and dance again. This shit's super engaging.
>>
>>319860050
yeah I think the only reason that linearity still sets me off is because devs don't know how to use it right anymore. Old "linear" games still had openness to them. Games like Super Mario World had linear levels. But the world map was dynamic based on completion of levels and allowed multiple paths.

Today's games typically take linear gameplay too literally. It's like the whole game in every aspect is linear, from upgrade paths to level design and world design, etc.
>>
>>319860890
I bet you'd love it if the MC would be thirsting hard for Kellog's cock instead and choke down on his jizz with glee

Because it's just discovering the MC's motivations as determined by the developers - never mind that the game markets itself as an open rpg

fuck you buddy

yep. ass-pained to infinity my good chum.
you should get some kinda cream for that.
>>
>>319861727
This one gets me. What the fuck is wrong with turn based combat? Some of my favorite games had turn based combat. Super Mario RPG, FF6,7,10. Chrono Trigger.

I mean all they need to do is keep advancing that shit further (not become something else... looking at you KH and Crisis Core and other psuedo action-take turn hybrid shit).
>>
>>319862072
hating turn based combat is literally a meme

im not kidding, I dont believe at all that a single person on /v/ truly thinks turn based combat is inherently bad
>>

Yeah probably.

>>319859883
Unless it's Max Payne 3
>>
>>319862072
vanilla turn based combat like Dragon Quest puts me to fucking sleep. Shit like SMT is great, but when the strategy can literally just be "pick best attack, repeat infinity times" I despise it.
>>
>game has less than 60fps
It matters with some genres, but people on /v/ act like every game absolutely has to run at 60fps and if it doesn't it's shit. Fucking annoying.
>>
>>319862072
>>319861727
The reverse of this for me. I don't mind turn based, it's just another combat system that can be good or shit, but to hear turn based fans it's like that's the only way to do an RPG. Just because action RPGs have overtaking turn based doesn't mean they're bad, and they also are not "dumb button mashers" unless you play them that way, which you can also do with turn based, just more slowly.
>>
>>319862378
I never got this from /v/, especially since everyone seems to make fun of TotalBiscuit.
>>
>>319862072
Well, technically speaking, every game you mentioned (besides SMRPG) does not have turn based combat.
>>
When rpgs try to reinvent conventional classes, like FFT's Gunner, or Dragon's Dogma's Magic Archer. I think its fun to try to experiment with new and exciting options and playstyles as long as you make the class well and its not just another gimmicky class.

I honestly love vanilla turn based. This doesn't mean I don't enjoy others though. It's just my favorite. I also really don't believe it's the only way to do it. Do people really say that?
>>
>>319862019

no, I'm just running with your logic, sport

you literally don't seem to mind if anything dumb or contradicting happens to your character, because it's just like reading a book
>>
>>319859757
The anime art style means it's bad.
>>
Most censorship.

Sometimes, yeah, it's unreasonable and uncalled for.

But most of the time, it's shit that doesn't actually affect the game anyway, so why bother?

>A console is not defined only by its exclusives, but by it's hardware

You've got an argument with how a given console handles its online component

But a good game on a given console, as a general rule, will handle that console's hardware well. A good game is a good game regardless of hardware, and some of the best games ever made either eliminated or embraced their hardware's limitations.
Depriving yourself of a good game simply because it's on sub-prime hardware is only doing a disservice to you and no one else.
>>
>>319860646
I think his point that people like you are being dumb by not being objective about valuing how good or bad a console is and letting abstract immaterial bullshit cloud your opinions.

VATS, as presented in Fallout 3, with absolutely no modding, didn't upset me. I rather liked that interpretation of "Aimed Shot," from the earlier iterations of the series.

Graphics and 60 framerates.
I don't care about graphics that much, in fact consider it the least when it comes to a videogame.

60 framerates are unimportant to me. In fact I'm fine playing games if the framerate is stable 24fps. As long as it's playable to me, I don't see it as a valid reason for criticism.

Of course I will not deny 60FPS is better. I just don't care about it.
>>
>>319860740
Glassing someone is generally regarded to be a hostile action
>>
ironsights. there are games that implement it correctly, so just saying "IRONSIGHTS HURR" isnt a fucking reason.

for example, the specialists. you could enter ironsights if your gun had no secondary mode.

it changed NOTHING. you didnt go slower, you didnt aim better, you didnt see farther. it literally just changed the models position from the right hand side, to ironsights.
>>
>>319860740
>guy tells you awful shit
>"glass him" option appears
>oh this must mean im giving him a drink!
>>
>Resolution/framerate bullshit
>Long intros/tutorials (namely TP's)
>Collectathon game design
>Dollar-to-hour ratios
>Mild censorship

Those are a few I can think of off the top of my head. Now on the flipside, one thing that absolutely blasts my ass that most people don't seem to be bothered by is buying a console for multiplats. Like, if you want one because it has better exclusives than the other AND it gets multiplats then whatever, but buying one FOR multiplats? Maybe it's because I think most of them nowadays look like garbage but this concept has always been lost on me.
>>
>>319863149
instead of pressing one button to attack, you have anywhere between 6 and 47 buttons to press

A game not being designed with me in mind.

It is utterly amazing to me how angry people around here get at the mere existence of games designed for somebody other than themselves. I also don't assume a game not made for me is automatically excluded from critical acclaim and awards.

Nothing, it's just that jrpg are usually so easy combats barely require any thoughts so if I have to fight the same pack of monster 30 times using the same strategy I'd rather do it in real time.

I've never had a problem with camera in many games.

When people say they can't play old games any more because they've "aged" it's just bullshit. I can go back to any game and play it fine. Even games I've not played before. I get used to how the camera works and it doesn't bother me.
>>
>>319862758
But for example the PC wanting/needing to kill Kellogg no matter what is in no way out of character. Heck you kill like 100 raiders on your way to Diamond city, but you spare the man who gunned down your lover in cold blood? In a post-apocalyptic setting where there's no law preventing you from doing it?

You make sense. I feel this way, too.
>>
>>319864872
pretty much this. any turn based game turns into this. theres ALWAYS the option to hang back and just, overlevel, get overpowered.
>oh but you shouldnt get better prepared!
its like saying if the first person shooter is too easy, stop reloading your gun.

in an fps, there is no "hang back and become a god" fuck it option. well, i guess regenerating health is like this, you can just drop back whenever and come back indefinitly, but regen health USUALLY sucks.

VATS is one of the best mechanics that Beth added in the Fallout games. Of course the way it was in FO3 was the worst, with stopped time during the aiming and taking only like 10% damage while it's executing. Obsidian improved it a shitload for New Vegas, and in FO4 it's the best it's ever been.
I don't think I've even seen many people complain about it. Not like they complain about other changes Beth did.
In all honesty I hope they implement it in the next Elder Scrolls game.
>>
>>319865598
>Obsidian improved it a shitload for New Vegas

I disagree.

Obsidian did only two things with VATS in NV, they made it a lot buggier and they reduced damage reduction to almost nothing. The amount of times I could do nothing but watch my character die because they were performing none of the queued actions due to one bug or another was infuriating. At least in F3 the result of a VATS bug was just a little damage.
>>
I don't see the problem with non-game cinematic or artsy games. I think people get too hung up on the term video "game". Diversity is good. Of course, taking advantage of the medium and integrating interactivity into the narrative is best, but not every title has to focus on gameplay.
>>
Most stuff that gets shat on for being SJW (Including a woman or a brown character in the game)
