What games do kids and teens like these days?

Minecraft, phoneshit, undertale, other indieshit.

Basically PC and phone gaming
>>
Well I have have two brothers who are 9 and 16.

The 9 year old plays Diablo 3, L4D and Portal 2 while the 16 year old plays Fallout 1, TF2 and I think something else.

Cory in the House on the Nintendo DS

This picture hurts to look at. No one could possibly think it's more effective to use touchscreen when a physical interface is right below.
>>
My little brother plays Mount and Blade, a lot of different strategy games, Monster Hunter, Fallout and Minecraft. He and his friends are always Skyping and playing things together. I don't think kids hang out in person anymore.

Nah, this is an "old" way of thinking. They will just find a way to make regular keyboards obsolete in favor of touch interfaces.

Just like they did with regular telephones.

Tablet typing is objectively slower than keyboard typing. Even if you include tech such as swype and auto-complete, a keyboardist is simply going to perform faster and more accurately overall compared to typing on a screen input. Physical keyboards and mice will NEVER go away because they are just simply the best way to interface with a computer.
>>
>>319803563
Fuck off, Sid Mier's Pirates was a fun game.

So much of the complexity of technology has been obfuscated by clever design that they take it for granted, and they'll be at a major disadvantage if they can't interface with it at a lower level when more control is necessary.

Consider modern electronic music.
Kids think they can just buy a DAW and some plug-ins (or a Mac with GarageBand) and start making "chart-topping hitz" without understanding digital signal processing or having any familiarity with a real musical instrument.
There's a massive market built around these doomed, ignorant electronic composers, despite them using the same tools as industry veterans.
They never break out and git gud because they don't know how any of those tools work or even why any of them exist.

Soon, it'll be like that everywhere.
>>
14 year old little brother likes fightan games, think he mostly plays USFIV and Smash. Loved Dark Souls, too. Getting him a PS4 w/ Bloodborne for Christmas.
>>
>>319803748
Missed the point there dude. It's not that the keyboard and mouse are better (they are) it's what people are used to.

This isn't exclusive to the states, FYI. Some parts of Europe use imperial units as well, and likely for the same reasons.

Being born in 1989 I have a huge problem seeing the world as kids do now.

NES and SNES and such graphics are very normal to me and most of the games I played back then are still fun today.

But when you grow up with Call of Duty, Minecraft and such.

How do you introduce these young children to Age of Empires or Red Alert or Civilization.

I mean I played Red Alert when I was 6 year old I had no idea I was playing it. I watched a boy circa 15 at 6 years old play Warcraft and Dune 2. I was mesmerized by it, watching it for hours.

When I did get Age of Empires in 1998 and Red Alert I remember spending my first summer holidays off school in a undershirts sweating my balls off playing tons of Red Alert 1 and Age of Empires 1.

I remember re reading the Tiberian Sun Preview for 50 times in a PC magazine. Getting hyped like crazy.
>>
>>319806583
And your parents were hyped to watch television, and their parents were hyped to listen to radio shows.
The next generation will be hyped to jack into new, more immersive VR worlds.

Your tastes are a product of the technology of your childhood. What's your point?
>>
>>319806583
1989fag here as well, only games I could watch others play were old ps1 resident evil games, only because I was "too young" to play those kinds of games and my big bro would let me stay up n watch him play through it

Scary shit, but it's one of my best memories

I have 3 little cousins, aged 13, 11, and 6.

The 13 and 11 year olds constantly play minecraft or smash bros on 3ds while having goofy weird youtube videos about it playing on an ipad nearby.

The 6 year old is the only one branching out looking around for games. He wants to play anything and everything, and it's great. I enjoy my time with him. Last time I was over he had started Okami and Viewtiful Joe on the wii. I was a little proud. He then switched over to the 360 and showed me the combos he had learned on the newer SSX game. I was a little surprised he had gotten that good so quickly. I have hope for kids like him. I'm doing my best to supply him with good games now.

The other 2 are a lost cause. I actually forgot to mention the 13 year old now draws sonic fanart as well, and plays sonic on smash bros all the time.

Minecraft.

I take a little pride in having been there for the alpha, crafting the world and laying the foundation for the stories that are now passed around as legends in schools all over the world.

The home-row typing style is designed to allow copyists to input what they see almost as fast as they read it.
It's really not necessary for people transcribing dictated material or content via stream of consciousness.
