RS is probably the best MMORPG.
Not modern RS of course, but around 2006/2007 the game was nearly perfect... in terms of quests... skills... combat... there's just been nothing like it.

it's not even about being nostalgic.. it's just looking at the game for what it is and not falling into "wow RS le ebin game r u 12" meme. the way they do quests, skills and combat makes for a really great RPG and then top it off it's an MMO.
the only thing that comes close in my mind is vanilla/TBC WoW and even then the quests and skills don't come close to being as intricate as WoW. WoW has much better combat obviously.

RS skills were terrible because they were literally just grinding for thousands of hours, and because the game had no real endgame otherwise that's what everyone did and what you were expected to do.
Runescape should have had OSRS's Deadman Mode from the start, and it should have actually been the main mode of the game. Server resets should also have been happening so players aren't forced into stagnation because of having nothing to do; if not, then the developers needed to be prepared to pump out a TON of quests/pvm challenges every month so as to make sure players didn't exhaust content.
Also, it would have been nice if there was some sort of connection between combat as it was applied to monsters and combat as it applied to other players; at very few points in quests or bossing was it essential to freeze, or make tricky escapes using obstacles, or to burst a monster down with a special attack before it healed, or even switch weapons or gear. Most combat was just "wear best melee armor and click on the enemy", which was unacceptable.

Agility is one of the more tolerable skills in the game right now if you ask me. Rooftop courses make the skill a proper skinner box with random reward tokens, instead of an endless grind for xp only.
Woodcutting, fishing, mining, these skills are still endless boring grind with no variation and almost no interaction.

I'm not sure how functional Deadman mode really is. It's sort of... join one of the big clans or die over and over and accomplish nothing. Pretty impossible to play solo. RS definitely feels better with faster xp, and the xp loss on death + protected skills system is pretty interesting to me.

I do agree that they really left a lot of skills unused but RS quests were still great. I remember the first time completing Dragon Slayer and was able to wear that Rune pl8body. so satisfying.

You'll eventually be banned for botting. However, you'll end up having more fun before then because you can do much more content with a higher level character. If you know programming and bot enough you can even get to the point where you are able to pay for college through selling GP, although I've had over 500 accounts permabanned.

I go back to it every now and then.
I was making a range pure, because why not, but then started training other combat skills, because I guess I wanted to at the time, and now I wish I didn't because a range pure is yet again sounds appealing so I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm definitely not going to start another character.
problem is I'm running out of GP to buy bonds with and making money is a choir. I can't flip on RS3 like I use to because of actual RS economic reasons and because I'm not patient enough so I'm kind of in a GP crisis.
