How was this game so good but also so depressing?
Just finished it, almost made me cry.
It's the first game to do that.

Because Zack was a great character, and is the epitome of the happy-go-lucky yet stalwart hero. Unfortunately, everything goes wrong for him and he doesn't get the happy ending he deserves. Crisis Core is an excellent tragedy. I put it up there with Terranigma in terms of tragic heroes.

We got Type-0 HD like 3 months after consoles and we're getting FF10 HD collection soon as well. Squeenix is adamant about getting every single FF game onto PC.

He was a likable character but I wouldn't call him a great one.

The most notable thing about him is the fact that Cloud idolized him and he dies, which is the extent of his role in the original.

Other than that, he's kind of boring. Just a random collection of shonen tropes shoved in a human being. That's okay though, because the plot of FFVII kind of demands that he is as such.

Most of the shit regarding ties to the original game is good because of nostalgia - but even then some of that is ruined by stopping scenes we recognize to interject some retarded donut steel bullshit with Genesis or Angeal being on the scene. Everything else is forced, repetitive, and almost oblivious to what made FFVII charming and lovable.

>levels are dull, linear hallways where enemies might spawn
>combat is repetitive once you reach a certain level (new game plus is pretty much just mashing X)
>combat system uses an absolutely retarded slot machine mechanic that I'm pretty sure isn't even fully understood by the developers
>even the streets of Midgar are boring
>you finally get to explore Shinra HQ in third person glory, and it's like two empty rooms and an elevator where you take orders from another donut steel piece of shit
>No sight of the Shinra president, Heidegger, Scarlet, or Palmer. Instead we get a fat knockoff of Hojo so we can have a doctor injecting himself with Jenova cells/boss fight without Zack killing Hojo
>Elena's replacement and reason for her being a new recruit in FFVII is a shittier version of her for KH faggots. I guess they didn't realize Elena being a new recruit doesn't necessarily mean she was replacing anyone, especially not the other token female member
>Zack's death is retconned to be some overdramatic animu shit, with him giving a speech to Cloud first and turning into flower pedals or some retarded shit

Same. I like it when games do stuff like that.

In the Asuras Wrath DLC the end boss has QTEs that he fucks up. Not as emotionally effective but cool in a similar way.

Plus the disturbing noise it makes, like a fucked up record, and there is no music playing during this scene. It's just overall sad, creepy and fucked up.

The incorporation of a game mechanic being broken as a direct result of the mc dying is only an emotion that a video game can convey.

It would be like, if bowser broke mario's legs at the end of the game, and escaped with the princes, but when the next level loads, and you try to jump, mario physically CAN'T, he just struggles and gyrayes trying to jump on broken legs, and there is a goomba inching towards you, and there's nothing you can do about it. Once it touches mario, you die in typical mario fashion, falling up and off the screen, and there are no more lives. It's game over.

That's how crisis core ends.
