It's pretty good. Only problems are that you can't manually switch targets and that Gerwalk and Battroid mode are kinda....ehhhh when it comes to controls.

I agree that the story isn't always the best but there's usually instances where someone from one series interacts with someone from another series in novel ways. That's a lot of the draw to me.
Play these games in this order
Assault Suits Valken (known as Cybernator in NA, but it's missing a level and some story stuff. Play the translation of it by Aeon Genesis)
Metal Warriors (made by Lucas Arts. Basically a love letter to ASV)
Front Mission: Gun Hazard (a lot of the same staff that ASV had, defintely took a lot of inspiration from MW)
