Give me examples of video games that add extra content depending on the date you play them as. I have only played two games that do this (well 2 that I accidently figured out that have this at least) and it intrigued me greatly.Those games are Cave Story and Simpsons Road Rage.
Now that Christmas is almost here (well it's on 7th of January where I live) I think it's prime time to discuss this.
The extra content I mentioned can be anything, even just little things as new skins and sprites for characters.

Diamond Dust in the northen snowy part of DPP was the special weather effect, I believe it's activated on Masuda's birthday or something. Not sure if it applies to HGSS.
I just remembered that loads of online games have stuff like this, especially MMOs, WoW has big events for several holidays, Killing Floor reskins all the enemies and sometimes adds new maps.
TF2 has had winter updates for the past 5 years. However no word on if they're doing anything this year.
Borderlands 2 has a Crimbo DLC, but DLCs don't really count.
Nintendogs I think would give special gifts during dog walks on Christmas.
Sonic Adventure 2 had christmas stuff.
You guys remember free Christmas versions of games from the 90s? They would be like festive demos made to promote the game in question.

I remember Lego Loco would have Christmas-themed buildings and snow if you played it in December. There was some other seasonal stuff but I don't remember it exactly.

In November and January it's just a "winter" nights, and during the rest of the year it's basically just a demo of the normal game (though it has a mode where you play as reala on april fools day) but in december Christmas Nights is, well, christmas themed.
