Melee players won't shut up about how amazing Melee is. At least Smash 4 players don't do that. I get that you want to cling to your dying game because of how much time you've invested in it, but maybe it's time to realize that life moves on. Games move on.
You're more than welcome to play outdated versions of games, but you really just shouldn't be surprised when others want to play the latest version of something. Hell, even super hardcore Street Fighter 2 players at least acknowledge and understand why others would want to play the latest version of SF over something that's so old.

I never had a problem with Melee. I would even watch some of the tournies. But when I was watching the PSX event every time a trailer appeared, for no fucking reason I could discern, about 20 different people in chat would spam MELEE HD FINALLY and shit like that. For me, the point where a fanbase becomes cancerous is when they try to insert themselves into situations outside of their fandom where they do not belong. And that is why the Melee fanbase is autistic.

SF4 is more casual than SF3. Despite this, the fanbase largely moved on and has gotten a great deal of enjoyment out of SF4. SF5 looks to continue this trend, but SF fans are hype.
Compare this to the screaming, whining, pants-shitting, fanfic-making Melee fans and you can easily see the difference between a real fighter and your "platform brawler."

Pro tip nothing sf4 did was anti competitive. Everything after melee was decidedly so.
The reason why a lot of people (not just on /v/) dislike the Melee community is because it contains a higher than normal concentration of annoying little shits.
These annoying little shits are always trying to make everything about Melee and/or how great it is, especially if it is in comparison to other fighting games, and that goes double for other games in the Smash series. Most people would agree that Melee is great, or amazing, etc. But these people are never satisfied until they make sure everyone knows that Melee is the best and nothing else comes close, and that it even makes other good games look like shit in comparison.
People like this are not endearing. It does not make anyone like you except for other people already in on the circlejerk. I realize (and most of /v/, does too) that these people are not the entirety of the Melee community. But there's far more of them there than in other communities, and they are far more vocal as well. So fuck those guys, and fuck the people in the Melee community who don't act like this, but are still ok with their behavior.

OP here, I agree, Melee HD is never going to happen and I don't know why anyone in the world thinks is. Brawl and Smash 4 are the sequels, and IN THE CASE OF SMASH, they are meant to be upgrades from the pervious games. The only reason Melee is still alive is because of the happy accident it was that made its competitive depth and shit etc. Everyone knows Sakurai doesn't give a shit about that, so therefore Melee HD is just as likely to happen as Brawl HD.
It's a fun game with a long history. People get excited about it. You think people complained about all the autists playing baseball when it was 14 years old?

You checked both smashboards and facebook? In a worst case scenario you could play netplay. It's a little different than real life but you should be able to play anyone within 400 miles with 0 issue. Very little lag even coast to coast.

I like melee it is probably in my top 5 GameCube games but the second any melee fag says sm4sh is trash because it's not exactly what they want is where I draw the line. It's fine to enjoy melee more then 4 but the melee fan base is full of crybabys who can't accept the fact that Sakurai isn't making the game exclusively for them.
