Is there a better place to pick one of these up than Amazon for 169.99 with free shipping? I've found them cheaper but after shipping it's more. Is the Q4 even still the best option?

Also fightstick thread I guess

Just spend an extra $30 and get one of these, you'll be doing yourself a favor

The case is too big and ugly as shit though
Anyways what's the advantage? I'm only playing on PC so I don't really care about current gen console compatibility
>>
If you have a facebook account, check if your city has a local scene group. Sometimes, there are people selling their sticks for cheap prices. i bought a chunli madcatz fightstick for 70 and it had a couple of broken buttons but i replace them easily.
>>
>>319726976
It has the perfect weight, no shifting around whatsoever.

It's the easiest to change out stick/buttons, it opens up like a trunk with room for storing stuff inside.
>>
>>319727341
I'm not really looking for any of that, I just want something moderately sized and easy to customize art on. the Q4's nice clean black case is nice for that, I wouldn't have to pick a blue or red theme like with >>319726860

How is the Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai?
>>
Theres plenty you can get for less than a qanba. Its main selling point is that its dual modded out of the box, which means jack shit to you because you play on pc. Get an older gen madcatz or even a hori and some new buttons. Anything works on pc and buying a cadillac of fightsticks for no reason other than art replacement sounds quite needless to me.

Plus the start button on the qanba doesnt quite have that 20mm tactile "feel" to it.
>>
>>319729473
I've got one because lolPS4, but I've never used anything besides American arcade cabinets and a cheaper Hori stick. It seems fine, but I was honestly expecting more for the price difference between my last generation cheapo stick and this thing.

Anything specific you're looking for?
>>
>>319730710
Nothing in particular. Just trying to make a serious attempt at getting into GGXrd and having a little trouble doing some of the combos with a pad.

I assume the only thing that's really comparable is the TE2 that comes out tomorrow, but it's $100 more, and I guess I wouldn't really notice the difference between the two anyway.
>>
>>319731214
I've never really used standard Sanwa stick/buttons, but I'm guessing it's all pretty similar. Everything's very sensitive and requires little force to actuate. Which wasn't something I was expecting, but it works well enough.

Mad Catz SXT Cross Arcade FightStick Pro PS3 is what I was thinking of getting, since I am an ausfag and can get it for about 140 (buying one of the new madcatz PS4 sticks, once you factor in exchange rates and shipping would cost me about 400, which is stupid).

You wouldn't happen to know if that will be fine for SFV and Xrd on PC?

Well, here's the picture of it.

And thanks. I guess I'll try reading up on all that. I just heard that capcom weren't supporting PS3 sticks or they didn't work even on the PC version for whatever reason.
>>
>>319736772
Read if you want but it works. Here's the short version:

PCB Issues and the TE.
Xbox 360 version: For those who are dual-modding with an TEasy Strike, when you open up your stick, printed on the board should be its Revision Version printed on the board. If you have Rev A, that is the problem board. If you have Rev B you will be fine. Rev A = bad. Rev B = Good. I was also under the impression that Rev B boards are more reliable

PS3 Version: Because of USB protocol encoding or rather the kind of encoding use, The PS3 version of the TE has issues operating on PCs with Non-Intel USB controllers chipsets.
I am not sure if this is limited to AMD chipsets or this is all Non-Intel.
The exception to this is the PS3 Chun Li TE-S.

Older TE PCBs are issues, the newer TE-S and TE S+ does not have the same issues, same with the Pro and VS sticks.

Here is a thread specifically talking about it elsewhere:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/138282/street-fighter-x-tekken-arcade-fightstick-pro-official-thread/p18

Really there is no reason that a stick "works on pc but not in sfv specifically". That just doesn't happen.

I personally used to own for years the one madcatz stick that had trouble on pc and it was a bitch to find an opportunity to sell it and buy a new one that did work. Now I have a SCV one.
>>
>>319737591

Yeah I like it so far though I may get some different buttons later on.

The 4 kai buttons seem a bit wider and lower profile than most other sticks and they are a good bit quieter but I prefer loud clicky buttons. They work fine, just a matter of taste.

Is it to accommodate the boner you get playing R. Mika?

>>319739559
a simple solution would be to take the buttons and stick out and flip the top plate vertically so it's mirrored when you play from the back side of the stick. The joystick needs to stay where it is because it has to be anchored to case, and obviously you'd need to rotate it 180 degrees so the directions work properly.
The parts would be aligned right and everything, it would work if you don't mind the cord coming out towards you. They're plenty long so it won't affect your reach.

Of course, you could always make your own lefty case and buy the parts.

I dunno about the mini4, but I'd imagine its maybe the same length as the 3 (10 ft or so) maybe a little longer since its supposed to be an improvement.

as far as choice goes, its not a bad choice. Decent buttons and shit, never heard an issue on them. Do expect them to be the quality for the money, you're not getting fantastic parts with it for that price. The biggest issue is just how small it is for some people, so if you have a big hand, you might have a lot of issues pressing buttons and shit like that.
>>
>>319743678
Well each button is ~5-8 dollars.

8 x 8 = 64.

The stick is 25 dollars.

89 dollars

The casing is some arbitrary amount based off what you use. There you go. Theoretically you could get cheap buttons and shit from China and make one for 20 bucks, but it would be shit. You can also buy shit sticks. The reason the individual pieces cost so much is because they are arcade pieces and that is a niche market so the manufacture has to do things like sell high quality buttons for 8 bucks a button.
>>
>>319743678
Originally it was quality parts. Sanwa buttons and gates are tremendously good, cords and shit like that. Then it became more of a branding thing, Madcatz got a reputation for making top quality sticks, so they added bonus SF art and shit, not to mention "Special Editions" and that drove the prices up the wall. But there are still a lot of options under the 100 dollar range, not all sticks are TEs.

I own it.

The problem isn't the buttons or stick, they're really good.

The problem is it has a lag of like 15 ms or something.

Because the parts are just bad. If you actually enjoy a stick you'll be spending even more money to get a new one, and you can't even get a proper judgement because of just how bad they are. You wouldn't judge all burgers off McDonalds standards

budget sticks straight up do not work after like 3 months of regular use
the parts just fall apart
very cheap parts

if you want a stick, just buy a TE2 or a VRAP or a Q4

Money is not a problem.
I'll tell you, it's the size, I already have a mayflash, which still works but I'm not really happy with the parts and all the noises it does.

I tried a VRAP once, it's perfect, but the only thing that matters to me is the size, I find them ridiculously big for what they are.

Isn't there a medium sized stick thats decent?
>>
>>319747640
You won't get a quality small stick unless you mod it. A standard Madcatz SE can be modded easily, if you're buying for PC use then you won't even have to swap the PCB on it, just the buttons + stick.
>>
>>319747306
>>319747153

Also I've been playing on a pad for the past few years, and only now I came to realize that playing on a pad is impossible.

I know that you will tell me this champion or this did it, but I've never seen them win or get in top 8, and those who did all play a character that does not need a pad or hard execution techs, such as Rose.

LP MP HP
LK MK HK
it's supposed to be
X Y RB
A B RT
these are the proper bindings, as it matches the default configuration of the game's controls.

Like I said, it's not like it matters. You can just configure it in the menu. I just can't fathom why someone would arrange them like that, no game uses that scheme. If you were playing with a group it would get annoying having to switch the inputs back and forth every time it's your turn.

and yeah, like everyone said the parts will be ass and it will barely be functional. I've had my HORI 2 years now already and it still feels like it'll last forever, I doubt that garbage will hold up even a quarter of that.

I've order TE2 earlier in the week, 350 NZ (235 US). From what I've read it's one of the best options for future proof fight sticks as it works on PC and PS4 and also is easy to mod.

One thing though, stay away from Xbone fight sticks OP. They only work in 6 button configurations due to MS still not releasing proper xbone drivers. Apparently they will release them once Killer Instinct gets released on PC next year, if you can wait that long then Razer Atrox is a good option, moderately priced, all sanwa, easy to mod and has no input lag.
>>
>>319747837
It was a DOA4 stick, the layout works best for DOA, VF, and all NeoGeo fighters.

The problem with changing arrangements is that some games don't allow for player by player configuration of controls, so if you have 2 different sticks you're fucked

I don't know why you guys call it a "madcatz" trend when it's based off the default bindings for the pad, though.

I'm not a really a SF player, though. Did home-console versions before SFIV have a different layout? I'm skeptical. How did they arrange the stick before?
>>
>>319749142
Black Friday (ship mostly sailed), or during any major tournament, especially EVO.
>>
>>319749287
It's the default bindings for pad but it's not the typical bindings for arcade sticks, before Madcatz they were almost all arranged like that white and green Hori stick, this was because even though SF and Tekken pads were arranged like that by default, almost every other game was better suited to the old Hori layout.

I've never really gotten in to a fighting game. I played the shit out of melee but let's be real if you don't need a fightstick it's not a fighting game. That said I'm really excited for sf5 and I want to get into it for real. Should I use a gamepad until I see if I like it? Should I not bother learning in a gamepad only to re learn it on a stick? Also if I should get a stick before it comes out, when is going to be the best time for a sale?
>>
>>319750152
Play the game before you invest in a stick. The game will play the same regardless, only buy a stick if you feel limited.

You're answering yourself, if you aren't that much into fightans, no matter how hard you want into them, and also happen not to like shmups, there aren't much reasons for an arcade stick
>>
>>319750050
Russian here as well, I feel your pain m88, I live in NZ and there are almost no fight sticks here at all and importing one costs as much as a house, my suggestion is just to tough it out until some major retailer decides to import them which may make it somewhat cheaper since they'd be importing in bulk.
>>
>>319750152

Use a god damn gamepad before you buy a fight stick. Go to a local fighting game meetup if you want to try out a stick, people are usually pretty friendly about letting newcomers try as long as you don't act like some shady piece of shit that wants to steal things.

Dariusburst (nice for beginners)
Mushihimesama (nice intro into danmaku)
Ikaruga (iconic shmup - can get very difficult at high level)

Cardinal Sins, Mushihimesama. Both on Steam
>>

If you want to try STGs, at least be aware of the 1cc rule. Don't credit feed unless you just want to practice, and even then it's better not to in the end.

There's a lot of beginner level STGs on steam now. Mushihimesama is a good starting point. Keep an eye on Cave the developer, they're planning on releasing more games on steam soon.
>>
>>319751130
>Mushihimesama is a good starting point

Lolno, it is a good starting point only for danmaku, he's a beginner, he's better off with Dariusburst.

Revolver360 Re Actor is also kinda nice, I kinda liked it, very stylish, uses innovative mechanics too
>>
what material do you use to replace art? are people just using pieces of copy paper????? i don't have a kinkos? does my shitty printer support thicker paper???
>>

You want to use adhesive paper, just about any print shop does it. You'll need a print shop due to the high DPI, a household printer will look like ass.
>>
>>319751281

Dariusburst is also $50 for a ton of generic filler, I'd rather he start with something at least well crafted.and cheaper to get into.

Astebreed was okay if you want a really entry level STG with some varied mechanics.
