I only played the DS version up to the battle with Hyne, but I enjoyed it.

The famicom version however is probably one of my favorite FF's. Loved the encouragement it lent to experiment with different setups. Trouble with a dungeon or boss? Change up the classes and see what happens. Also appreciate that it has just enough story to carry the player through the locations.

Exactly why I loved this game, it was so unique in that respect. I don't know how they fucked Bravely Default up so bad, all they had to do was FF3-2 + story, but instead they fucked it up.

Honestly, I didn't like this game very much. Pretty boring and bland. Nothing about the story was exciting or new, the battle system was average and the graphics... I just don't like that chibi shit. Playing it felt like a chore.

You've just left what you've known is the world and discovered that it's only a fraction, and a majority of the surface world is desolate, empty ocean. This music really can tell the story better than the dialog can.

Early game is pretty hard unless you know how to use items and scholar.
Melee become too fucking powerful at the halfway point, and generally everything becomes piss easy then. Also black mage and it's upgrades became utterly useless.
Changing to the jobs of the Earth Crystal wasn't all that a good idea because by that time you already have other jobs a level 80-ish, which highly improves your hit count/crit rate/damage and switching to a new job like Ninja would have to begin at level 1 again.

I actually quite liked it, don't know why everyone is shitting on the remake, I never played the original, though.

Not my opinion, so I don't know.
However, I know that it's not the same shit. The original didn't have job levels, only normal levels, it didn't force status mali for a job switch on you and the jobs Ninja and Sage were found separately and were powerful enough to literally make every other job obsolete.

Absolutely loved this game as it's basically proto FFV. Too bad Scholar sucks complete shit and is only useful in one boss fight in the entire game.

FF6 would probably be the place to try first. It's a transistory period between old-school ff and what it would become, so it's likely to be the most familiar for you.

If you like 6, try 4 again. 3 is the best of the nes trio, and unless you like it and 5, I couldn't recommend 1 or 2.
