What was your first JRPG?
Can't quite remember if it was DW1 or FF1, but I know I did complete FF1 first since I never managed to finish DW1 as a kid.

Pokemon yellow version.

Shining Force.
I was 8 at the time. I made a terrible choice.
Then I played FF and it sucked too. Cared about only action games etc on NES for the rest of its life and then had my fuckin brain blown out by FF2 when it came out in 1991.
thousand arms has some mechanical annoyances like not being able to rotate the camera in the overworld and move at the same time, and a janky battle system
but its graphics and presentation are interesting

I like the battle system.
The technique and summon beast leveling was idiotic because it was a grind of use it then sleep till it upgraded.
The blacksmith thing was pretty cool for improving weapons
It was either Riviera the Promised Land or Sword of Mana. Riviera is still one of my favorite games today. Sting is a great game dev, so it's sad to see them no longer have the creative freedom they once did. I hear the GBA remake of Sword of Mana get a lot of hate, but I honestly love it. Bosses such as Dimitri and the final battle with Julius(?) are pretty memorable for me and it had a good amount of weapons and areas.
link to the past
if anyone's thinking of playing there's an undub. only a straight file replacement (major lip syncing issues)
for a working designs localization the translation is reasonably accurate...

This and Secret of Mana from Blockbuster occupied me for long periods of time.
