I just realised that Nick Valentine from Fallout 4 is a reference to Pero from Metropolis. They look similar, dress the same, have the same job, and also have the same looking injuries to boot.

Metropolis, Fallout 4, The Big O, hell even Penny Arcade made a series of comics about one.

I have had faint memories of watching this once with my father way back when it first came out but I forgot the title and I've only had little memories of what the movie scenes looked like.
