DLC one is tricky and gets hijacked by piratefags all the time. If a team is still making content for the game 3 years later it's not unfair to reward them for their time.
However, if a company states that part of their business model is splitting things into DLC and tries selling you season passes then it's scummy as shit.
expansion packs are often large overhauls whereas dlc is just small side content that could have easily just been a patch

To this day I've never bought a season pass, the idea of pre-planned DLC absolutely disgusts me. Even the few AAA games I enjoy (Battlefield 4 and SW Battlefield) I play without DLC. I don't take them too seriously (basically it's my casual vidya to bridge the gap between all the Jap games I consume) so the fact that I'm missing out on content doesn't bother me too much.

DLC is just expansion content split up to be sold separately, more often than not for a high price than a typical expansion ($30 - $40). And over the years it became even worse by being day 1 content from the base game behind a paywall.

DLC tends to be maybe one or two extra areas with 400+ who-gives-a-shit like weapons, bonus characters, costumes, etc. - all tallying up to a price equal or greater than the original game. Expansion packs are putting ALL that DLC onto a single disc/download, plus entirely new story arcs, bosses, areas, etc., oftentimes equal-or-greater in size to the original game, for typically roughly half the price of the original game.
