I forget to follow normals with command normals and command normals with specials (only when chained from normals first, otherwise they won't chain into specials).
I don't play them regularly enough to, and I get rusty in time. A bad combo.

I got got gud for a while when I used to play constantly USFIV with my room-mate.
Since he's moved out I haven't felt like playing any fighters so I've become trash again.

I just don't like confrontation. I have no desire to hurt my opponent. And I only do it, because there is no other option. My opponent strikes me, and I must fight to survive. But I don't get any real satisfaction in fighting them. The only satisfaction I get, comes from successfully subduing them. So winning means both everything and nothing to me. Victory is bitter sweet.
So... I never put in the work to get gud. In fact, I don't even play fighters anymore. If someone asks, I decline.

Ask yourself what kind of play style you like, do you like charge characters, heavy hitters, grapplers, zoners etc.
You could also aim for a fighting style you like. Wrestling and Boxing are super common ones people tend to get drawn towards.
Finally, the "feel" of a character is pretty important. Does it feel good/satisfying to land hits or combos with them?

But I am getting better, I've climbed my way up to 2k bp or pp or whatever the fuck it is with Balrog. I can't do a headbutt into super though.

Where you try to get good at executing your moves, and doing it skillfully. But unfortunately, the only way you can really exercise skillful execution, is by fighting another person. I picked up an interest in fighting games during the whole SF4 era and played a bunch of different shit including old games but i could never ever gain any sort of competence at so much as pulling combos together or slightly more difficult inputs in tough situations or footsies. It becMe obvious i was never gonna have fun with these without so really dedicated training period that I wouldn't have fun with at all and there was no way in hell i was going to be able to manage that.

I don't like strategy games either. I like adventure games. Because there's something to explore. A lot of people play games from opponent to opponent. Or match to match. I play games from location to location. Or from sight to sight. I only wish to advance in order to discover something interesting, and see what it does. Any enemies I encounter, I dispatch only to allow me to continue advancing. Or to see what I could potentially get from killing them.
In fighting games, you don't get anything from beating your opponent, except bragging rights.
