Why did snowboarding games die?
>>
global warming
>>
Because the actual sport of snowboarding is dying.

Thanks to shaped skis making skiing even easier, fewer and fewer people are bothering to pick up snowboards, and as such the vidya for it is dying.

Also, check out Stoked: Big Air Edition.

I know nothing about snow sports: what do you mean by shaped skis?
>>
Because we're not in the XTREME late 1990s/early 2000s anymore.
Nothing but skateboarding made it out alive.
>>
The success of Tony Hawk encouraged Activision and Ubisoft to churn out titles based on every extreme sport under the sun. They flopped and it killed the whole sub-genre

Back in the day, skis used to come in several styles for various snow conditions, such as hard pack, powder, slush, and whatnot, which meant that you needed multiple sets of skis in order to really handle well in various conditions.

Then some engineering genius figured out that changing the contours of the ski in a certain way meant that you could get just as much carve and traction in more types of snow than one, and thus only need one pair of skis for all snow types. This, combined with the fact that learning how to snowboard is figuratively and literally a pain in the ass, meant that people were more apt to either jump on skis or avoid snowsports altogether.

I've been snowboarding for 18 years, and it's almost sad to see that most boarders on the mountain are mid-30s-40s with barely any kids picking it up.

I legitimately enjoyed this game greatly.

Yeah, it didn't have the same festival flair of the previous games, but the gameplay was solid, and the tracks were fun.

It was better than On Tour, and everything else past SSX3 anyway.

As a side note, the film "The Art of Flight", which was I think a big inspiration on the development of this game, is pretty fucking dope. If you haven't seen it, it's basically mountain porn. Some of the most amazing nature shots I have ever seen outside of top tier BBC nature documentaries.

The soundtrack and music system in this game is fucking amazing. I love being able to have your own music mix to the gameplay.

I don't see why you wouldnt snowboard

I like not having to carry around poles everywhere I go

This game was pretty great. 4chan would rave about it if it wasn't an EA title.

Lots of mountains will have flat spots, which require you to remove a foot from the binding so you can push yourself along (unless you carry poles to propel yourself), while skis can just make skating motions to keep moving.

Beyond that, it's also about reputation. Snowboarders are seen as punks and hooligans who do nothing more than get in the way and act rude, so lots of people don't want that kind of association.

The 4chan community for the game when it launched, though small, was pretty good. There were about 20 of us that played regularly and were always making new events.

Only lasted about a month, but it's the only time I've ever done anything with people from 4chan and had it not be complete shit, full of autism and cringe. Pretty much everyone who played was cool.

It's kind of a tricky subject.
