Effortless story & characters. Affinity missions are like 5 lines long. They don't even delve into the characters, they just have a stiff awkward scene of trying to make you feel sorry for a character with the same piano music you've heard at least 100 times already.

I hate that only Elma & Lin/Tatsu are in the cutscenes. I'm tired of them. They're the same fucking characters throughout the whole damn game. They never develop. And those fucking Tatsu food jokes in EVERY FUCKING SCENE. Even in the most serious scenes.
This is the first Monolith Soft RPG I've dropped without finishing. The story & characters are garbage. The alien races are generic. New LA is bland. The same fucking 5 Sawano tracks in every scene. Sawano's shit music made for metalcore/nu metal loving 12 year olds. I love the world of Mira but damn does the game fall flat in the characters & story department. What the fuck has happened to Takahashi? I can't believe these are the same guys who wrote Xenoblade.

kek, although it is true that this game's sidequest have somewhat decent writting, I hope you're talking about games like planetscape torment, which most of the time are ass to play.
OP does have some vievpoints I share. The story bits are nothing extraordinary, like the mission where you follow the commander around all day, you could see the "oh, so he is hard working after all" coming from miles away.
However the delivery is ok, so it doesn't bother me at all.
And yeah, the food jokes do get stale, they happen way too often to be a running gag or something.
Anyway, minor complaints. Game is still fun .

My only real problem with the game, is how much it takes from MMOs, really, getting around is such a pain before you get a skell, and even then, with randomly placed high level enemies, and the annoying grind before you can move on, as well as find this item, it really can be annoying.

The songs have enough cheezyness to them that despite some questions as to why they were picked for the things they were picked for, they have enough character to grow on you over time as you listen to them over and over.

Do skell frames level up with use or do you have to buy the better frames to level skells up?
So I heard the best use of skells is to give 3 to your party members since the AI is too shit to properly manage positionals/stagger rotations and just go on ground yourself while they just spam in their skells? this seems like a good idea in theory, not to mention you'd get that nice defense bonus from being the only one on foot and the AI will always do a perfect eject if they blow up the skell
But don't you do more damage in your own skell? my backslash sure as fuck can't do 12k in one hit like my skell at level 23, and I only have the shitty default urban one till later levels

You gotta buy the level 50 frames, AND ideally the level 50 weaponry to keep up. That said the 30 frames will last you through most bosses and such until you hit that level.
The annoying part is how frustratingly few research probes you get in comparison to the mining probes that rain on your head every time your character turns a corner.

Eventually you're going to want your own Skell for the added defense/health as well as the ability to fly as there are plenty of enemies that you just can't reach from the ground.
But that theory is pretty sound for a general running around style.
You'll have to deal with the AI burning through their fuel constantly though.Also with the right debuffs/buffs my Rising Slash can do 12k per hit, so you can actually quite easily outdamage a Skell on foot.
