What JRPGs have satisfying real time combat? What I like about WRPGS (Witcher 3, Fallout, Skyrim) is that even when the combat's too easy, it's still there and you have options to be creative. Every Japanese RPG I've tried is either turn-based, auto-attack based, or a grind-y hack and slash that's more focused on numbers than actually enjoying yourself in combat. Except Dark Souls and TLoZ of course.

Other than the fact that your character speaks, Deus Ex allows much more creative and choice in how you want to tackle the game than 90% of turn-based RPGs where every play through is nearly the same. I personally dint think that most JRPGs should be called RPGs, but just turn-based adventure games. When I think of an RPG, I think of something like Dark Souls, Fallout/TES, or EYE:DC.

Was that your problem? That there was no real decision which effects the story? I guess that's a fair point when it's an rpg and games such as Gothic 2 came out around the same time, but for me it was more about character building and role playing with how your character moves around the world, more things like "should I kill him?", "should I steal this?" and "do I really WANT to go on this quest" over any main story related decision. I play Morrowind for the adventure and to see if my character can actually over come the challenges he sets for himself. I'm not saying that your wrong, just that not every rpg needs a strong dynamic story, even if it is appreciated. Not having dynamic story choices is a downside, yes, but it doesn't stop the game from being good in other ways.

But yeah, that was my point, generalizing doesn't really work with such "genres" as wrpg or jrpg because both of them contain over a dozen of rpg systems, which in my opinion makes the terms jrpg and wrpg pretty useless. Unlike most other genres, they barely tell you what the game is about. If you tell me "play this racing game!" I know what I will get, you drive some kind of vehicle. FPS? Shooting shit.
