It's not that good. Not only does it feel super awkward but since combat is positioning base it's annoying as fuck against anything larger than a tiny bug.

All you nigger worrying about heart to hearts, stop. I did all of them, they don't complete map sections or have acheivements, they aren't tied to completion in any way.
His affinity missions are forced on you, you literally can't skip them. There is NOTHING missable if you want to just plow through the story.

At least I've figured out the items and where to get them now, only problem is to wait on one of them. As far as getting items goes from the probes, is that all based on luck or how long do I have to wait?

Pretty sure cometite is generic, there are some minerals tied to sites but it isn't one I think. You can double check on frontier nav. If it's generic just put a mining probe everywhere you can and wait.
