>What used to be a handful of hackers is now a highly effective, organized network, in the business of stealing and selling items. It would be easier for them to go after the users who don't understand how to stay secure online, but the prevalence of items make it worthwhile to target everyone. We see around 77,000 accounts hijacked and pillaged each month. These are not new or naïve users; these are professional CS:GO players, reddit contributors, item traders, etc. Users can be targeted randomly as part of a larger group or even individually. Hackers can wait months for a payoff, all the while relentlessly attempting to gain access. It's a losing battle to protect your items against someone who steals them for a living.

>>
>there are actually people here who blame opportunists instead of the leagues of kikes at Valve who implemented a mini fucking economy into a gaming service
Absolutely disgusting, but then I guess people are just too thrilled about the idea of making a few dollars off trading cards every year.

Why are accounts suddenly big targets? Oh right, because you allowed people to trade in real money while taking a healthy cut for yourself.

And what does Valve do with the millions pouring in from retards? Do they upgrade their service? No, it's still the same slow piece of shit it's always been. Do they give people better sales? No, they've been getting worse year in, year out.

Oh, well at least they're making games, right? No, they stopped doing that years ago.

I used Uplay a couple of weeks back. I could start playing the game a third of the way through the download. The program boots up in 2 seconds, and closes without complaint. There are no constant ads. The dumb tab menu doesn't freeze the game.

This is a fucking shitty Ubisoft service, and it's literally better than anything Steam has offered in a decade.
>>
>>319648628

Then you have nothing to fear, like mentioned these are russians, they only think about CS:GO and the likes while their country falls apart around them.
Keep in mind though it goes for any valuable item in your inventory, steam trading cards and gifts may be a target too.

How they hijack your account.
Many reatrds here thinks it's just Vladimir posing as a steam employee and asking you to give them the pass for a "xmas gift" or some shit like that.
In reality it goes to the point were even joining a pub server in a Source game can get you a rat.
Team Speak, Mumble, everything connected to Source games were you can host your own server is a potential treat.

If you sell more than 200 items on steam market within a year you can fill out an IRS form and sell whatever number you want, it's also one time only and doesn't require you fill it out yearly, I did my the same month steam market was introduced.

If you do have the same passwords your a fucking complete idiot who deserves to get hacked.

his password IS more difficult to guess than iamaretardedfaggotplsfuckmytits5236.

It uses uppercase, lower, numbers, and symbols and pretty large. Your example password uses lowercase and numbers.

Also I highly doubt he manually types that in, he probably uses a password manager.

It's so much fun messing with them like opening up a trade window, putting in the items they want to get, then just walking away from the computer and letting the trade window sit open. I once had a Russian so desperate that he literally sat there for 5 hours (I went out drinking) hoping that the "lag error" would subside. You can't imagine the rage he felt when I finally flat out told him I don't give handouts to Russian scum.
>>
>>319660519

You shouldn't be getting that unless you sold 200+ things AND make $20,000 in a given year. Had that happen to me this year actually, which sucks because I had to pay $3.6K in self-employment tax.
>>
>>319659603
The point is that you have 7776^5 combinations of words, which is more secure than a mixed case+punctuation+numbers 8 character password (was lazy and just did 128^8, even through there are slightly fewer standard ascii chars than that) while being relatively easy to remember.

dunno if I like the Diceware list, because some of those things in its dictionary are kind of decidedly unmemorable, and that could bias the search space (eg, people re-rolling because who the fuck wants to remember a password like "tr a&p $$ styli oooo" -- that's a particularly bad example I made up looking at the list, but uncommon words that were actually words would be pretty easily memorable; I'd expect more passwords to look like "onward icing todd brooke payday" in practice)

The most important bit is that password your generation scheme is truly random, otherwise you can remove a ton of possibilities from the search space as an attacker.

like, you could make a mixed case+punctuation+numbers password the length of the Diceware password, but good luck remembering it without writing it down or storing it on your computer.
