Every class has the same item slots. Every class needs the same tokens to get an item. If you need 5 boots for 5 different classes it takes you 5 times as long to get all the boots on the same character than it would take you on 5 different characters. That's a fact, you can't just argue that you could get replacement shit instead.

You don't. You can share a set of gear across Paladin, Warrior, and Dark Knight. You can share a set of gear across White Mage, Scholar, and Astrologian. You can share a set of gear across Black Mage and Summoner, You can share a set of gear across Bard and Machinist. The only jobs that can't share gear are Monk, Dragoon, and Ninja.
