Why haven't you played Tales of Maj'Eyal yet? It's free. You have no excuse, you can run it on a Pentium 4.
Because Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is my Roguelike of choice.
>>319641734
Still prefer ToMe.
Because it's got 1300 some odd achievements and the game's super duper haaaaaaaaaaaaaard.
I got quite a long way into it and then died. Don't feel like trudging throught the boring start phase again
>>319641185
Because Tales of the Abyss is superior.
>>319642253
The game isn't hard at all. Perfect amount of challenge for me. It has abilities and you can get yourself out of a bind if you know what you're doing. In NetHack, your first line of defense is combat. Second is Elbereth, 3rd is prayer. Last is running away and that's it.
Also the 1.3k achievements don't matter unless you're an achievementfag.
>>319642320
You know, you can turn perma-death off.
>>319642390
>being this retarded
>>319642442
>The game isn't hard at all
>>319642442
>You know, you can turn perma-death off.
>In a roguelike
But to be honest, i was kinda burned out from weeks of playing other roguelikes, so that's also a factor
Because I play the ASCII versions of ADOM since fucking2006and until I beat it I won't install anything else.
>>319642558
I'm pretty sure you can. In character creation, click 'Roguelike' and change it to Exploration.
>>319642518
It isn't. It comes down to if the RNG is on your side.
>>319642602
Props. I always meant to beat ADOM but it seems too daunting. Any tips?
>>319642730
I despise RNG. I prefer my fate to be in my own hands at all times.
>>319642805
>He thinks he has free will and isn't bound by the god's path set to him!
>>319642859
>>319642805
Well, technically it is. ToME is more lenient than other roguelikes. Usually if you die it's your fault, though there's the odd occassion you get fucked.
>>319642859
Deus vult
Playing it since a couple months. Love it. Got to the final boss once as stone warden and got my ass beat.
>>319641185
i downloaded it
every button i press forces steam to take a fucking screenshot and i was too lazy to bother with a fix
>>319642998
How much HP did he have? I want to see how many hits it'd take for my Lvl 8 Reaver to kill him.
>>319643030
Never happened to me. Just download it through the official website.
>>319641185
I played it a lot, but I run into the problem where auto-expolre works as a means of getting through the game for a long while without any risk, and then you suddenly run into something that instantly kills you. Feels like the mobs are either complete trash, or 20 level higher murder machines. Also, fuck Forge Giants.
It costs money on steam, why?
>>319642805
Tome is pretty good with regards to RNG though. Good item drops can help, but the majority of the challenges can be overcome with skill alone.
>>319643310
Because some people have pennies lying around, and wish to support the devs.
>>319643173
I don't use auto-explore to be honest. The mobs I encountered were easy, the only ones I had trouble with were rares and bosses. Though that may be because I was a reaver with maxed out Soul Rot.
>>319643310
It's free on the official website.
te4.org/download
>>319643334
Literally this.
>Play the game
>Beat every dungeon
>There's clearly more land to go to, I just have no idea how to get to it
>Stop playing
anyone played caves of qud in here? what did you think of it?
>>319643310
It's "premium" on Steam, it's like a donation button more than anything
The only difference is that you can use different sprites for your char
Because roguelikes are really only for autistic people.
Emergent or procedural RNG-based gameplay is time-wasting bullshit. Everyone should know this by now.
>>319641185
Because it's fucking shit. Either your character becomes completely overpowered (that's what people say) or you die to a fucking random monster that spams uncounterable high damage spells (happens every fucking time).
What pisses me off the most is how the game puts you in the same stupid ass "zones" every time.
>>319643632
>Implying that everyone on /v/ isn't autistic
Also, it isn't, anon-kun. Makes the experience different each time.
>>319643098
1.6k health at level 47, just checked in the vault
>>319642518
It's not hard. It might be tedious with thinking around each turn in a fight, but other than that if you have head on your shoulders and know your ways around any RPG, it shouldn't be difficult to beat the game.
Currently playing heavy armor Dwarf Oozemancer because fuck getting one hit KO'd
>1.4 update soon
Looking forward to see those new classes, but I don't want to play as a fucking orc in the campaign.
They literally mentioned "high-tech steam giants" and that's what I want to play as.
>>319643310
If you purchase it on steam, you get donator benefits.
But it isn't much. Just a bonus dwarf class and a fucking bikini cosmetic.
>>319643719
The final boss I meant.
>>319641185
Because NetHack just got an update.but ToME is a great game though
>>319643632
>that terrible opinion
>>319643875
Only reason I agree with here. Best birthday present I could have ever gotten. Hopefully they won't take another decade to make a new version.
>>319642558
there is nothing wrong with savescumming, it's how original Hack creator recommended to play the game in mid 80-s, but then autists invented permadeath meme.
>>319642730
>Props. I always meant to beat ADOM but it seems too daunting. Any tips?
Shit man, I don't know, I haven't been to ToEF.
All I know is that I have the most success with Dwarven Priests or Gray Elf Wizards.
Until the patch that nerfed stomafillia, it seemed like you could win by farming herbs, crowning with copious amounts of stomafillia, pumping Wi, To and Dx with herbs and then just going to town.
Sadly, I still don't get it how to not suck.
>>319641185
>2015 ToME
>default game mode is non-permadeath death adventurer mode with lives
>removed 'roguelike' elements to streamlime it for a modern audience
>>319644146
Don't know about you, but my default gamemode is Roguelike. And what exactly did they remove?
>>319643775
No idea, it's been a while. Use your google-fu, anon.
>>319644146
>"muh extra lives equals easy mode" meme
Tome has a shit load more variance than other roguelikes. You can literally take a single step out of a corner and die. You get those extra lives for a reason.
>>319644210
It defaults to your last setup, but on a fresh install it defaults to a non-permadeath mode.
>>319644414
It doesn't do that for me, and I just re-installed the game too.
>>319644410
Sounds like you're part of the modern audience that is too retarded to learn game mechanics and need crutches. Just like the reason why all items are auto-identified now - eliminating any risk and reward or learning experience.
>>319644691
Honestly I don't mind the auto-identify, but you're right.
>>319644510
It must be your previous settings then, the developer often replies on the steam forums and has to justify why exactly he decided to make the default ascension have lives right from the get go. The Scrying Orb can go fuck itself too.
>>319644146
>literally complaining about which difficulty options is selected by default, even if you can change it at any point
>>319644836
Then drop it. Wait... You can't drop the scrying orb? For fuck's sake, what casual bullshit is this.
>>319644691
Sounds like you are trying too hard to fit in with the crowd from the "hardcore" gamer internet echo-chamber.
I really want to play it but the lack of walking animations is completely off-putting to me. how hard can it be to include some basic fucking movement animations?
