Did it really flop? I'm pretty sure Nintendo was still making profit during that era
>>
>>319609109
No.

And I'd hardly call it a flop.
>>
>>319609109
I'd buy a few just to insure my smash melee will be played foreverrr
>>
Yes, because not putting a DVD player on a system when DVDs were shiny new toys was the most idiotic business decision in vidya history.

Had they done that, it would have sold twice or three times as much.

Yes.

>>319609221

The handle is because it's a big brick. Unlike the PS2 it never got a slimline version either.

i wonder if there were autists arguing about gamecube sales in 2001. i wouldnt know, because i was too busy being a kid and having fun with it with my friends

im sad that GBP is the only reason to use the gamecube, since wii does everything else plus dirt cheap component cables

Speaking of... I have a GameCube controller and USB connector on the way for emulation. Are there any good games on this system, besides eternal darkness that weren't developed by Nintendo?

I can still play it on my Wii loader or Dolphin, but I can't find the fucker for less than $50. That's a lot to pay for a not-that-old game, that I likely would only buy just to own a copy.

It's a pretty good console. Only reason I'd want a Wii over it is for Bootmii and Project M.

I would really like to see some photos of this set up properly. Every time I tried it, I got a fucked up image with letterboxing, on 4:3 games, and the settings only make it worse by cutting off the edges, and there are no Wii mode settings. The whole shit was definitely designed for hdmi and 16:9. I'm glad I kept my Wii around because it's a billion times better for emulation, it seems.

I'm convinced the gamecube was nintendo's best console. They hit all the important points Nintendo succeeds at with the console: innovative ideas that may or may not work, new entries in all their big franchises, and new IPs.

the GBA as a controller/screen was really full of potential that just never took off but kind of lives on in the DS line. they had a new mario, two zeldas, a mario kart, F Zero, 2 metroid games (in a totally new perspective), smash bros as well as new DK games, pikmin, chibi robo and some great third party support (RE4 alone was worth it).

>Path Of Radiance
>Animal Crossing before it sold out to fuck
>Superior version of Soul Calibur II
>Resi 4
>Thousand Year Door
>Chibi Robo
>Timesplitters 2
>Viewtiful Joe

Personal Preference Greats (but widely accepted to be at least okay)
>Twilight Princess
>Mario Sunshine
>Four Sword Adventures
>Tales Of
>Prime 2: Echoes
>Pokemon Colosseum and XD
>Mario Strikers
>Billy Hatcher
>Killer 7
>Kururin Squash

Good for their time
>Luigi's Mansion
>Mario Power Tennis
>Monkey Ball before the franchise got shit
>Mario Golf
>Phantasy Star Online
>Wave Race (not as good as the N64 one though)
>Star Fox Assault
>Beyond Good and Evil

"Quirky" aka good if you can ignore the gimmicks or pretend it's a different franchise
>Donkey Konga 1 and 2
>Dinosaur Planet
>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
>Wario World
>Battalion Wars
>Crystal Chronicles
I've tried cutting out as many cross-plats and remakes as possible, aside from those that are more widely associated with their Gamecube release (as with Viewtiful Joe which original an exclusive). Feel free to shuffle around games into different tiers but these are all the games I had a blast playing on the Gamecube. Not the best game ever but certainly better than the Xbox, and at the very least went toe-to-toe with PS2 in terms of its best exclusives.

But then, I think the best console of that gen was the Dreamcast, so i guess I'm just an edgy hipster cunt

Pikmin is better on the Wii. Metroid Prime is arguably better, too.
>>
>>319612578
>No Melee
>>
>>319612843
That may well be true, but I'm only really comparing the Cube to what had come before, and what was out the same time. A console can't really 'deserve to be a flop', as OP asks, just because a future console did it better

Actually, N64 was the best. Not necessarily just because of Nintendo though. OoT, MM, both Goemons, Starfox and Sin & Punishment, Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Paper Mario, Castlevania 64, and other games I desperately need to play like Body Harvest, Silicon Space Valley, Robotron 64, WinBack, and Flying Dragon.

Gamecube was good but it's where Nintendo linearity, lack of playtesting, and censored edits started creeping in.
>Metroid Prime being edited to not include space boots early trick when the game was designed with it in mind.
>The Wind Waker having a forced jump distance, linearity for no reason, and the FMV at the end of the game takes up half the disk.
>Twilight Princess being screwed over by the delay for the Wii.

I was just watching a video for the latter, where Link could shield crouch like the other Zeldas in the original demo. But they took that out and the Mirror Shield with it for probably that reason. Who knows what countless other things we missed out on because of pointless compromises or incompetence (see how few games took advantage of the analog shoulder-buttons). Nintendo thinks that gamers abandoned them during the GCN, but in reality they're the ones who dropped the ball. The N64 was ambitious and quirky and they supported it like thunder even in the face of losing their greatest supporters. For the GCN, they just made a few deals with Capcom under the table to get exclusives and then called it a day.

Did Wind Waker actually do that? Every cutscene I remember in the game, including everything after the Ganon fight, looked like in-engine graphics to me

If they really recorded in-engine graphics and then saved it as an FMV, then yeah, Nintendo are absolute fucking morons

I got Nintendont for my WiiU. I went through the 600 or so GC games. I realize now why that console sold the way it did. No Online really. Forcing that GBA to GC connectivity. No real Final Fantasy. No GTA. Every decent third party exclusive ended up on PS2. No DVD player. Nintendo didn't know its audience. WiiU is in the same boat except with not as many decent to good games.
