Have you actually played DMC2? I have, and I've also played DmC. DmC has lame combat. But DMC2 does too. And what DmC does not have is environments that consist entirely of blank grey rooms, or boss fights that consist entirely of sitting in a corner mashing the shoot button for twenty fucking minutes. In terms of basic functionality you can't reasonably argue that DmC is worse than DMC2. It's like comparing Shadow the hedgehog to Sonic 06; they're both bad but one is on a completely different plane.

I am literally the opposite - I consider DS1 and 2 to be functionally the same fucking game, it continues to boggle my mind how people on /v/ (and only /v/) somehow HATE one or the other but praise the rest of the games as a whole (talking about the whole series, but 2 most of all). Ok, the fact you take a lift up into a pool of lava is retarded but I'll give it a pass on the whole "Drangleic is a continent" thing. There's one thing /v/ was right about (and you said it yourself) Bloodborne IS a souls game, because it is literally Dark Souls w/o shields. Yes, the details change but to go back to my framerate statement: there was onyl one thing that bothered me between 1 and 2, and it was the graphics - gameplay between them has its differences - but it was the washed out lighting and weird, off-putting increase in overall framerate.Clothing physics made all this forgivable.

You can ignore cutscenes. You can't ignore it when the basic mechanics of the game are completely broken. DmC's combat is simple and shallow, nobody's arguing against that, but DMC2 is mechanically flawed in much more intense ways. Fixed camera angles that refuse to actually show what you're attacking. Autotargeting is almost less than useless since it refuses to latch onto correct enemies and sometimes refuses to work at all. Five enemies total. And since you brought up how bad it was that DmC expected you to weapon switch frequently, it bears mentioning that DMC2 didn't allow on the fly weapon switching at all except for the guns, which were universally useless.
DmC is easy and shallow. DMC2 is easy and shallow too, in addition to being outright painful to play. The two aren't comparable, as easy as it is to hate Donte.
