You actually do need to remember the time in which Sonic 1/2/3 was released -- big sprites were the "in" thing, showing off that your system could handle a large amount of graphics data.
also, the sprites in Sonic aren't even that big, and I've never heard people argue that they couldn't see far enough ahead before two or three years ago

Sonic is just a bad Marble Blast.
Marble Blast does everything Sonic tried and failed to do. It's has multiple routes throughout a majority of it's levels, ways to shave off time, and most of all speed and the satisfaction it brings is a reward for skilled play, not a replacement for it. Importantly, it's levels are quick, and resets are simple, so the memorization required to stay fast in sonic is more easily palatable during a game of Marble Blast. Not to mention you can actually see the level laid out in front of you instead of being zoomed in and guessing, like sonic.

I'm not. 4chan filenames are just unix timestamps, plus 3 digits at the end for milliseconds. It's the number of seconds that have passed since 1970, there are plenty of converters online you can use

We can clearly see that Mario game creates illusion of choice, while Sonic game has straightforward well designed path. Picture shows that Mario game barely has any dangers in it, the only real obstacles are monsters with poorly designed AI, but when we look at Sonic game we clearly see that it is a real deal, nobody will pick a fight with lava. Everyone knows that Mario coin mechanics are really poor, they just give you an extra live, while we already have green mushrooms. In Sonic coins have a bigger role, they have a real use in the game world.
Obviously Sonic game is superior in every way.
