It does get way more praise than DW2. DW2 is easily the black sheep of the PS1 Digimon games. I think DW3 is way worse, but usually people will either say that DW1 or 3 are the best.

The DNA evolution was what made DW2. You had to plot out your evolutions.
What abilities did you want?
Make sure you throw in Necro Magic somehow.
Make a healer Digimon.
Make a status effect heavy Digimon.
Make an entire squad.
Enter dungeons and prepare for the various traps that could potentially fuck you over.

What are you talking about? The initial game? You mean DW3? Bosses don't kill it in one hit. It has less defense than, say Agumon, but it has way higher magic attack and bosses are a joke against magic. Renamon is easily the best character.
