It was also beautiful - few thousand years ago the place was a lush garden and much more green than now. The whole green are around the Nile was much wider (due to, among other, Nile periodic floods), there were lots of more oases in the deserts. Ancient Babylon was awe-inspiring as well; the whole fertile crescent was much more pleasing to live in general.
