It's not a good console. The biggest games are just new versions of games you've played on GameCube. The new IP's are overrated just because they are new IP. I actually agree with you that Bloodborne isn't a souls rehash since there is enough new content in the game, I was just using that as a comparison to Mario games.
The same can be said for Super Mario 3D world for example. Sure, it's taking bits from other Mario games in a similar style to 3D land but from someone who has fully completed the game I can guarantee there is enough new content that it doesn't feel like a rehash.
It's similar to Yoshi, and, in my opinion, most platformers. They tweak the controls slightly to get the feel right but the innovative content is the levels they actually provide rather than the overall theme/style/gameplay of the game.

The PS4 is ultimately the better system even despite the fact that it's library is sparse at the moment. I mean even platformers like Tearaway is basically semi-open world with proper console length gameplay. Bloodborne and it's expansion being the flagship AAA game that is undoubtedly one of the best games released this year already puts it in a good position.
However, what I have enjoyed most recently is playing Episode Duscae. I mean for a 900p upscaled early build of the game it looks absolutely brilliant and is very fun with around 8 hours of gameplay.
I guess the real advantage the PS4 has over the wiiU at least this year is being able to play multiplats. MGSV and Witcher 3 were pretty good even if they have their own individual set of flaws. Xenoblade Chronicles X was a bit of a let down for me, for various reasons but it still remains one of the original reasons why I bought a wiiU in the first place weather I liked the game or not. It can somewhat redeem itself with Zelda U but that remains to be seen.
When Gravity Rush drops in December it will completely cement my faith in the PS4 and I can't wait.

I have to wonder if it does have WiiU back compat wouldn't it also easily have Wii back compat? It's all the same damn dvd discs pretty much. Then you got NES-Gamecube easily downloadable since those aren't more than around a gig. Wii discs would take forever to download being 4-8 gig depending if the game was dual layer or not.

I think the WiiU has kind of become Gamecube2.
There's a ton of solid games, with the bulk of the library being made up of first party titles and really solid iterations of the their franchises (I've had a ton of fun with Mario Kart, Smash, and Mario 3D world). Also like the Gamecube, Nintendo's probably the best place to look if you can get a group of friends together to play. I'm lucky to be in college so I really don't have a problem convincing people to get together for Smash or Mario Kart, shits fun senpai.
I will say though, the Gamecube was way more supported by 3rd party developers (which is terrible for WiiU, because the Gamecube missed out on a lot), and there was a way stronger selection of Mature games (RE4, Eternal Darkness, REmake, Metroid...), but otherwise the WiiU had had some really solid titles. At least I've gotten a lot out of it.

The N64 was a fucking awesome platform to play on during its time.
Its major downside was the lack of games, but honestly, back then I couldn't have even gotten my hands on more games than I have.Due to monetary constraints.
I had at least two fucking awesome games to look forward to every year - and that was enough for me.
