What's going on
>>
Having logged countless hours in both games I assure you that two is better, when did you quit?

It only begins to pick up in South Window
>>
>>319530065
To be honest, I also think the mercenary fortress part is kinda boring, and that "guy(?)" death should be handled better, maybe make him interract with MC more.
>>
>>319530210

I'm in muse after viktors fort was destroyed

also that reminds me. How did Lucas army even get there because wasn't the only path between Highland and Jowsten through the northern pass?
>>
the start when you're in captivity may be slow, but I found S2 better than 1 in every way

You'll have a lot more boring conversation to jam X through Muse but it ends with good plot development

the next village is boring more convo stuff, then you head to South Window and begin the quest to get your castle.

Every Suikoden game is boring to start but the middle is god tier and the endings are satisfying, it's my favorite JRPG series. Stick with it.

Did you get Gilbert in the tutorial battle? He's missable, and you have to activate a cutscene with Clive in Muse or miss him too.
>>
Suikoden 2 has a pretty slow start, but believe me, once you get your castle, shit gets rolling like mad.

The tutorial battle? I don't remember a gilbert.

There was viktors unit, Fliks, and that random dude you hired to fix the fire spears
>>
nothing compares to S5 when it comes to slow starts
I love the game, but I dread going through stormfist every new playthrough
>>
>>319530065
When I first found out I got the bad ending by missing a prompt during the castle seige I got kinda pissed.

But then I saw how the "good" ending actually plays out on YouTube and man was I grateful I didn't get that ending. Fuck that fairy tale ending feels like utter fanservice and ruins the gravity of the entire story.
>>
>>319531027
nah, the beast units are trash
i think the octopus even ruins your 108 star count
>>
>>319531027
the tutorial battle is Viktor's fort with the fire spears, you need to damage Gilbert's unit without killing it and he joins you, first missable star with an ass method of recruiting.

I was kind of disappointed with 1. With Gremio coming back. It felt a lot more real with a character actually dying. Though there was plenty of great moments in 1 to make up for it

>>
>>319531016

zamza with the fire sealing/lizard runes will last long before you start getting fury and double beat runed
>>
>>319530065
Its worse than the first

In the first one the 108 stars m ade sense and had a practical use, it was pseudo pokemon

In 2 only a handpicked amount of characters get to do stuff, they are even irrelevant in the battles and the scale doesn't feel as big because little happens

There are also less areas
>>
>>319531362
Why would anyone subject themselves to playing that garbage?
>>
>>319531272
I honestly didn't mind Gremios revival in 1, the entire game played out almost like a Saturday morning cartoon, it was very light hearted and sweet. In two they were obviously going for a more darker tale and the revival shit and fake death felt out of place in context to the overall direction of the game.

this is the game where you gradually build up a fort or something, right? i heard about that and it sounds like pretty much exactly what i want

shit where you gradually build up an army/castle/base/whatever, especially if it has optional things to enhance it further is basically 10/10 for me but the only instances i can think of actually having played them would be the castle DLC and gathering the groups of guards in oblivion
>>

There's really only a handful that you would miss, you could skim a guide and it would probably tell you the tricky ones, and the rest are just intuitive. Probably about half are automatic.

>>319532631
Also, because this game is from an era in RPGs where devs weren't afraid to throw in tons of missable stuff
>>
Just so you guys know.

>Difficulty of getting all 108 stars at first playthrough

5 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 3

3 gives you a shitload of mandatory characters and aside from Landis, none of them are really tricky. The detective also work super fast.

4 is pretty easy, most of the recruitment is dumb as shit anyways.

1 is pretty balanced, some stuff that's hard to find without a guide, but most of the characters you can get automatically. No detectives though.

2 starts to get tricky with the recruitment, even with Richmond. You can still get a pretty good amount at the end of the first playthrough if you play carefully.

5 has some really important areas that you can easily miss and that have loads of characters in them. I was easily missing around 20 at the end of my first playthrough. There's almost zero "talk to recruit", you always have to have someone particular in your party or do some specific stuff.

The first two games are very similar you are partly experiencing the same game twice and may get burned out. Suikoden 2 only really starts though after you get your home base castle.

>>
>>319533252

that was fucking hard to accomplish. I think you had to rush almost all locations. They all had "be there before XX:XX game time or the trail gets cold". I was only able to do it on my third playthrough.
>>
>>319533252

Always have Clive and Stallion in your party. Gotta go fast.

Back when I knew fucking everything about the game (except for the cooking recipes bug) I managed to do an almost perfect run in 11 hours. You can do it, anon, just take a day off. The ending to Clive quest is nice and better if you see it for yourself.
>>
>>319530065
You are just burned out.
Play 2 after a few months.

Marinating non action RPG series has that effect.
>>
>>319533450
That was amazing. I loved how it gave every character a little more personality by showing us what food they like (though most were pretty predictable).
>>
>>319533453

Speedrunning the game is kinda dumb because it reaaaaly depends on whether you get lucky with your drops or not. No Fury rune in Muse at the beginning of the game is basically killing the whole run. Having one or two Double beats from the rabbit in the Northern Pass would also save a shitload of time during battles.
