What happened here?

Is that AoE3?
I don't play competitive much but, you know, their base might of been destroyed? Some big fights around the 53 minute mark too.

he choked
not even gatherer and rogan

Yes, AOE III.

Right here is where red blew it.

The original massive loss was compensated by a victory after, and both were building up equally for the third battle but red level off production and got rekt.
>>
>>319502170
Looks like red lost a large portion of his economy and couldn't reproduce the units lost after the engagement at ~53. Also noteworthy Blue managed to repel an attack with less units than the attacker so red possibly needs to git gud.
>>
Probably unit counters and a dumb fight, happens all the time even in high up competitive play

But this is a FFA so who cares
>>
>>319502170
Purple got blown the fuck out
>Purple
>>
>>319502923

And yet the roles were reversed in the next battle, where blue lost way more to a smaller army.

True. Looks like the only reason Red lost was due to a lack of an economy or production. Blue was able to put a lot of units on the map after the battle he lost whereas Red had very little in comparison.

At that point, if Red had just as many units the game would have went on longer. 25 v 75 is a massively imbalanced fight.
>>
>>319503553

Yeah it's just crazy the lead that red had though. Looks like purple and blue duked it out while red built up, and then...blam.
>>
>>319503897
Purple may have had a more important role then that. For Red's economy to be fucked he had to have someone raid him or he lost map control. Purple losing all his units could be synonymous with a raid gone bad that Blue then capitalized on.
>>
>>319502170
lower tiered buildup vs better unit composition

spamming musketmen/streleniks only works if you're putting them straight into the fight
>>
>>319504518
tho
>play russian
>have a much stronger age 2 eco as soon as you've aged up (which takes a little while longer than other civs)
>can have a raid on enemy villagers before they have a chance to build real defences
>if you survive age 3 (because your age 2 rush was enough of a success to set the opponent back; if you fail this you've lost) age 4 has instant pop cap armies to throw at the enemy in droves
>>
Why is AOE III so underrated? Yes, it's not super balanced in terms of maps/civs, but the gameplay is great. Same with the unique card system.

Plus NR 40/Treaty is GOAT game mode.
>dem walls
>>
>>319502170

Red tried to attack blue and failed. Blue built up and won. Obviously blue was playing Japan.

AOE III: The Asian Dynasties is the best AOE game.

>>319505503

>muh samurai
>>
>>319505104

Classic sequel effect. Everyone and their mom obsessed over AOE II. So when AOE III came out, they bitched because it wasn't a direct copy of AOE II.

AOE III also has the problem that its base game was unfinished. The two expansions turned it into the best AOE game. But few people bought the expansions. The fanbase just went running back to AOE II before AOE III got good.

And Ensemble Studios died as a result. Thanks AOE fans.
>>
>>319505662
except the 1st expansion was fucking awful and the 2nd expansion was fun but unbalanced
>>
>>319505662
The only people to ironically thank are those who thought releasing an unfinished product was a good idea.
>>
>>319505648

More like

>muh Daimyo and Shougun

Japan is overpowered because you can just focus all your resources in production buildings and get most of your army for free from dojo/cards. Then camp two Daimyo and a Shogun outside the enemy base and build units as you are fighting.
>>
>>319505839

Until they run into fur trade in treaty.
>>
>>319504086

Purple's loss happens at the same time red loses a tiny bit, so if anything it was Red who dealt the killing blow.

I don't know how purple got BTFO so hard at all stages of the game though, just a bad player maybe.

Blue was clearly teching and building a stronger economy than red and it showed lategame. Red was unable to keep up with the losses and upgrade his infrastructre at the same time and it eventually brought him down
>>
>>319505794

The first expansion added a lot more stuff to find while exploring early game. I'm not a big fan of playing as the indian tribes, but holy hell. Those indian recruits you get through trading posts are ridiculous and can basically rule the early and mid game. They're basically a cheap chump army while you turtle in base and build your real army.
>>
>>319505995
so basically you're saying that while the 2nd expansion added something of substance AND broke the balance the 1st expansion added nothing of substance but still broke the balance?
>>
>>319505968

Forgot to add on blue clearly had some seriously impressive base defense for that first battle, or red had a lack of siege units and was relying on Zerg tactics alone
>>
>>319505968
If Red took out Purple why didn't Red capitalize on the natural resources on the map intended for purple?

Blue had to have played some part in Purple's downfall or he just somehow managed to pull a strong economy out of his ass.
>>
>>319506423

Obviously blue did but blue's army got BTFO in that more than anyone else.
>>
>>319506154

Uh...no? I'm saying the first expansion added a lot more to exploration. Making it an important part of the game. If you just sat back and didn't explore, the other player would take all the native tribes and overrun you. Plus you'd miss all the free food/gold/EXP from the various events on the map.

Basically, it removed the problem of AOE II where two people just turtle until they have 200 units and then fight.
>>
>>319506423

Maybe Red just got cocky and blew everything on military thinking he could overwhelm blue?

You can see Red testing blue's defenses around 43 minutes and losing out bad while blue doesn't lose a thing. Blue's strat out of the gate was clearly to turtle up for the lategame, and red's was to run over his opponents before that point.

It's likely the red player just doesn't have much experience in that tier of the game, and prefers to end it early
>>
>>319507048

Maybe you just suck?
