Saw cleaver is apparently the best if you go full quality eventually. Of those two, I dunno. use the one you like.

axe and ludwigs holy blade are so good at PVE because they stagger enemies
axe also have better lifesteal than any other weapon so you can trade hits better

Not him, but I've played through TOH with Ludwig's recently. It works fine for the most part, but just make sure your weapon is upgraded pretty well.
Right now I'm using Simon's Bowblade. Kicks ass.
I'm going through a new game. I want to do an arcane /skill /bloodtinge because I went full Dex last time. I just got Ludwigs sword and the Tonitrus. I love the damage Tonitrus doss but the reach really messes me up, especially cause I went through my first playthrough with the axe. I don't much care for Ludwigs just cause it's so basic. Anything else I should try and get? Haber bought the hunter dlc yet but may after I beat it again.

I beat every boss except for Ebrietas without dying thanks to the fast hits and low Stamina usage. If there were modifiers or effects that triggered on hit it would be crazy.
