What was the last game you played that made you think "THIS is why I love video games"?

>love video games
>/v/
You came to the wrong place bub
Probably Ace Combat ZeroThat was three years ago
Sins of a Solar Empire
Not the best, not the worst, but the last game that resonated with me until I turned into a jaded cynic
Xenoblade x.
Doesn't hold your hand and just drops 800 pounds of gameplay on you.
Getting my skell was a pretty awesome moment.
Bloodborne before that
Project M
Psychonauts.
Playing it for the very first time right now.
Before that, Resident Evil Remake (HD remaster). The shining example of what the genre's capable of.
Aaand before that... I think the whole Shantae trilogy, which I played and beat last month.
Persona 3
The only game that made me grind to get lvl 99 All The crew
>>319491070
Fistful of frags. Simple, fast, and rewarding when you get a kill. Also,
>whiskey
Shovel Knight. This game intentionally took graphics as a dump stat and pumped the fuck out of Charm.
Zelda OOT on 3DS
I borrowed it from my roommate and it was the first Zelda game I ever beat to completion. It was alot better than the AAA trash I've bought this year.

>b-but OoT is totally obsolete and overrated! Artificial fun!
Nier and Deadly Premonition.
ironically Asura's wrath
Witcher 3.
It reminded me what a quality game made with passion by its devs can look like.
It's something we don't see really often these past years.
.Hack G.U.or the Socom series before that piece of shit 4 came out.
For some reason those two just stuck with me.
Undertale
>>319491070
Super Magnetic Neo.
Not even kidding, I needed a good simple platformer to remind me why I fell in love with video games in the first place.
>>319493038
>Artificial fun
>>319491070
Xenoblade Chronicles X
>Tfw the combat system finally clicks
>Start upgrading your skills and re-arranging your soul voices for maximum efficiency and organizing your party's arts and soul voices to compliment your own
Before that, it wasUndertale
And then before that, Bayonetta 2
Then Wonderful 101
And in 2012 it was Kid Icarus Uprising
I'm glad that there's still at the very least one game to restore my fate in the medium every year.
>>319493581
This. Never going to enjoy a multiplayer experience as much as I did this.
>>319491070
Literally any time I turn on a game I own, because I enjoy just about every purchase I've made and kept.
I mean, why keep a game you hate or, even worse, feel nothing for?

Nintendo is consistently fun
>>319492552
This right here and the Plague Knight expansion was absolute gold as well.
Platinum/Clover Games are the most Video Games Video Games to ever Game Videos, but this is probably my favorite one I've played.
UT, before that, Call of Juarez; Gunslinger.
>>319491070
>Time Splitters: Future Perfect
or
>Halo 3, after it was souped up on the Master Chief Collection.
>>319493275
My nigger
>>319493424
*unironcally*
>>319493986
multiplayer was fucking intimidating for me. whoever has the best tactics wins.
>>319491070
Metal gear rising
It's one of the only games I've played recently that wasn't trying to be "gritty", cinematic" or "realistic" but rather self-indulgent, self-aware, and fun
Zork at release
>>319491070
I want to say Age of Decadence, but that was more a subtle appreciation of the effort that went into it and the experience it provided than a genuine love for the medium. Ever since I got into tabletop, vidya's been pretty lackluster.
Metal Gear Rising.
>>319491070
Resident Evil 4
>>319494797
I mean starting out, it's easy to just take Coil and faceroll to the enemy base with your infinite respawners, but once you learn the mechanics of the game, it's really fun to win with just about any army.
The dumbest unit spam I found were Warfathers, where 5 of them could one shot a tower.
DKC Returns
Dark Souls
fuck you guys this game is some good shit
REMake before that
Pong
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
>>319493513
>naked truth
>GOTY
>>319495618
This game infused me with a strange sense of joy, wonder, and anticipation when I first played it. It was really something else.
>>319491070
Xenoblade X. It's real easy to hate videogames when you over indulge on AAA titles
>>319495721
Don't forget a sense of fear.
>clean up that one guy's cellar of spiders
>no music plays when you're down there
>spiders everywhere
fallout 4
