Haven't played any of the games since Max Payne 2 when it first came out on PS2. I remember thinking the first game was fantastic, and not liking MP2 as much. The tone looked too different for Max Payne 3, so I didn't play it.
Maybe I should revisit the series.

The tone wasn't really the problem, it was more the storytelling and Max's characterization. But the gameplay was phenomenal, probably my favorite third person shooter ever. MP3 was an acceptable modernization of the first two game's gameplay and I would definitely recommend it to anybody who played the first two.
