How would you fix Nintendo?
Lower publishing fees below what Sony asks for. Have them make a lot of exclusive deals with third parties. Release a system more powerful than the PS4, even if it is at a loss.
Basically, they need to get third parties back. They will always be able to survive on their first party games and handheld sales. They just need to become dominant on consoles again.
Also, bitchslap any shareholder who keeps demanding smartphone games.

That's pretty much what they were doing but that didn't really work out.

These are some of the things I could think of, but I'm not really sure what to do with third party stuff. I'm.not sure they can even get them back outside of them funding games for their system which isn't a bad option since they can have some creative control over it.

Yes it is. It is one of a dozen different reasons. And the primary reason third parties jumped to PS1 back in the day.

It was working fine. The 3DS is the only viable handheld anymore and crushed the PS Vita. But the minute Iwata died, they caved in and rushed to make smartphone games. Undercutting the very market that is keeping them alive.

They hated working on a Nintendo system because of tight quality control (censorship and demanding third parties change some things) and high publishing costs.
Nintendo has all but removed its quality restrictions. You can have a game focused on decapitating babies for all they care. The only thing that remains is the publishing costs being higher than Sony.
But you're right. Even if Nintendo did lower its publishing costs and had a system stronger than the PS4, some third parties would still boycott them just out of spite. But not all of them.

Nintendo already did it as well. Back on the GC, they had made the 'Big 5' deal where Capcom was suppose to make 5 games exclusive for GameCube. In the end, only four of them even released and all but one of them was quickly ported to PS2.
The deals you're seeing with Microsoft and Sony right now are doing the same thing. They pay millions so the company making the game can't port it to another system for 2 years. But then after that, suddenly the game is on XBone, PC, Wii U and any other system they can stuff it on.

There's too much market saturation for a Nintendo console. It's just a paywall to games that would sell much better on PC, and the marketing campaign could promote the simplicity of sharing the original Nintendo games with those that haven't played them.
