How long do you think a 750ti SC would be viable for PC gaming?

How long do you think a 750ti SC would be viable for PC gaming?

I've been saving for a proper build, about $400 towards an $800 build, but I have the opportunity to buy a 750ti SC for 100 flat. My desktop is an office computer from 2013, parts are compatible, but I'd need a 400W PSU, putting my total cost at 125 to turn an office PC into a entry-level rig.

The processor is a Phenom II X4 840T
Mobo is an Alvorix RS 880

There is no reasonable upgrade path with the core components, but if I can play this card for the next 2-3 years (even with lower settings), It'd be worth it.

I haven't played much vidya since 2012 and have a huge backlog. Considering that I don't mind playing at lower settings/resolutions, how long do you think this card could hold up?
>>
With other weak components it's barely viable today. Sorry anon.

If you can't afford it don't try and be a PC gamer, just stick to consoles. I mean that in the nicest way. You WILL regreat cheaping out.
>>

You should be able to play at Xbone settings at least. 30fps though.
>>
>>319472694
Get a 950. For 40 bucks more, you get a 750ti plus half a 750ti.
>>
>>319472883
This. Just keep saving your money and build a good rig from scratch
>>
You will be able to play everything at a better quality than current gen consoles
>>
>>319472694
750Ti wasn't viable since last year, all the cool poor kiddies go for the 950 or 380 now
>>
750ti is at or better than consoles.

Good entry card.
>>
>>319472694
It was acceptable when it was first released on the market. Now it's not worth it.

This is what I got for $600 a few months ago.

You can play FO4 on medium with some high settings using an i3+750ti and get framerates better than ps4/xbone, so there's that.
>>
>>319473060
a 960 is 20 dolars more than the 950, and the 380 is better anyway
>>
>>319473463
>960
top kek

>>319473463
>700w psu

for what purpose

>also 960
285 is same price, better card
>>
>>319473623
It's all still shit-tier if you want to play new games at 1080/60 with maxed settings, which should be the minimum target for someone on PC. If you accept less you may as well just get a PS4 for less than half the price.

>you could have bought this and had DOUBLE THE RAM POWER instead

it was one of those combo things
>>
>>319472883
They are weak compared to the high-performance CPU's, but the research I did didn't show a major detriment with a CPU/MOBO in these ranges with a 750ti. I'm reasonably sure the card would work to most of it's capacity, but a 750ti is on the tail end of the upgrade path for these components, just wondering how long till it can't run new releases.

I appreciate your input, but I really want to get back into gaming. I can wait another 6 months while I save up the second half of my cost, but 125 for office to entry level seems tempting.

>>319473060
Tempting, but I rather keep cost as low as possible/the offer on the table for me is specifically for a superclocked 750ti

>>319473082
That is the main question here. I can save the 125 in 1-2 months again. The idea could be to buy the 750ti now, and it could tide me over while I save up even more money for a better rig later on

Thank you for your input guys. I know it is a hard question to answer, but in the simplest terms I was wondering what the viability of this card was

Here.

>>319472883
The 750ti gets 30 FPS on high - very high on JC3, which is a pretty intensive game (albeit with an i3 and not a phenom).
>>
>>319474215
750ti is alright. Slightly better than console performance but that's not too fantastic. Next step up would probably be 280 or 380.

Also, this.
>>
>>319473434
Do you mean in price/performance or it's technical capabilities price notwithstanding?

>>319473545
Indeed I was looking at some FO4 videos with comparable hardware. I wouldn't mind playing it on low settings at 720p considering the office PC can barely run FO3

>>319473839
PS4s are still 300, the attractive quality is a current gen console-level performance for 125 + other benefits of PC gaming.

Again, just wondering, in the simplest of terms:
How long do you think till the 750ti is below the minimum specifications for the average big title games.

This guy has great deals, apparently.

I didn't realize a 2GB 680 existed, but according to Newegg it does.

Haven't bought off of eBay in years, but these are worth a look. Thank you for your research

>How long do you think till the 750ti is below the minimum specifications for the average big title games.

It technically is in some cases. that 2GB of vram is already a squeeze, but depending on how cpu or gpu dependent a game is probably a year at most for AAA games.
>>
>>319475478
Protip: wouldn't get less than a 6 series because of the encoder recording
>>
i love mine, it's quiet and there's no other plug

not like i can't live with not maxed out settings

Thank you for a straightforward answer.

Thanks man.

Does anyone have Corsair CX PSUs?
>Get a 500W one
>First day its smelly as fuck
>Bite the bullet and stress it out
>No performance problems, visual cues or smoke, just really bad smell
>4 days in
>No more huge smell but if I shove my nose on the back fan I can still smell something funky
>Keep running the computer but still fearful that it will explode, any noise I hear in my room I instantly think its the PSU dying
Someone please give me wisdom.

If you have an i5 and decent ram you could run for a while. With good optimized games. I had one until a week ago a could even run Fallout 4 (shit optimized game) on ultra.

If you go for ps4 settings Medium High 30 fps on 1089p you could run games for a while.
