Stay away from Air Raider and Fencer when you're first getting started. When the missions are almost over (3-5 enemies left) start backtracking and pick up all the drops you definitely will have missed.
Online worked great on 2025. I doubt this will be any different.

Not really. the enemies are satisfying to kill, and the constant gear upgrades are enjoyable to pick up. However, some might find the fact that mostly all the game is is 'shoot, jump, roll' for the main class kinda repetitive.

Took me forever to get a online group that either didn't kick me or the online crashed because of shitty connection.

the only problem with insect armageddon is how short it was, lack of variety of mobs because of that and how small the maps were. other than that it was better, the classes were better/leveling up felt better. same crazy weapons. had the same silly bantz, and cheesy 80's alien movie feel. had a FCUKING SPRINT BUTTON. wasnt mandatory to use a rocket launcher or sniper to hit dropships, or you will never finish a mission past 20.

Insect Armegedon is the Devil May Cry 2 of the series. Yes it advanced the series with interesting gameplay ideas, but the gameplay itself was a pile of shit in comparison to its predecessor. Those numbers aren't exact, but its something close to that. Thats how it worked at least in 2025.

EDF 4.1 (on PS4) is your best bet.
The latest one on the Vita will suffice, it's certainly a good game, but the console games are definitely far better overall.
If you have a PS3 or 360, you can get 2025, which is basically 4.1 without all the shiny new stuff (4.1 is basically a port with new content).

Piercing and striker weapons = forward dash
Automatic artillery weapons = upward thrust
Artillery weapons (except for dispersal mortar, javelin, and shotgun-type weapons which use upward thrust) = zoom

You can minimize the delays in between forward dashing by canceling the animation with a fast attack animation (e.g. forward dash->shield reflect->forward dash)

Fencer is by far the hardest class to master.
Basics- you have two sets of weapons. You can only switch between set 1 and set 2,
Set 1-The most commonly useful set up is two longish range guns, probably stick with the same gun on both sides for simplicity's sake.
Set 2- Your other set of weapons should be based on close range fighting and movement. This is where it gets weird. The fencer is actually the fastest class in the entire game, You can run circles on a Wing Diver. How? Boost canceling. There are 2 basic ways you can do this:
First of all, put a melee weapon on your right hand. The RB will serve as your boost. Then do one of the following on your left hand.
-Shield cancel- Use the shield reflect in between boosts to quickly cancel into the next boost. Lighter shields have faster reflects and through bug shit and acid back at them harder.
-Javelin launcher- This is the automatic needle silo you carry on your back. Hold LT while you mash boost to zip around the map. This is the fastest way to get around. Its a fairly common drop, so it should show up within the first 15-20ish levels you do. You can do this with other weapons with fast firing properties, but the regular Javelin launcher is the best.
While you are moving make sure to use your melee weapons because they also kick ass.

Introduced my normie roommate to the 2017 version on 360, and it was his go-to game whenever he had friends over. They could just jump into any mission and go to town.
If there's one thing I hate is that you have to navigate the pause menu with the left stick during a mission since d-pad is used for emotes

So I think I'm kinda getting the hang of Fencer, at least the dash cancelling stuff (similar to Gundam EX VS actually). But, so far I'm just playing on Normal, and online, so I have some team mates help.
The only problem is that things like the gatling gun, but it seems to suck. I know I'll get more weapons, but still.

Gatling guns are mostly shit
My favorite loadout would be Blasthole Spear+Javelin Catapult and 2x Hand Cannons. The Jackhammer is also a decent alternative to the Blasthole Spear. Doesn't do as much damage or have as much range, but it has a high rate of fire and lets you fire while on the move.
Game is FINALLY up on PSN. Fuck Sony. That's ridiculous.

They are only think 3-4 new missions featuring the new giant monster and the megazords. But some of the remixed missions are significantly different and better. It's mostly different enemy spawn placements and allys, but alot of them are suped of versions of the best missions from 2025.
For instance, the red ants and that one hector mission got a nice enemy count increase. The one where you're fighting the hectors on the plains is spectacular in this, I think they basically doubled the amount of hectors marching as well as doubled the allys that march with you on that mission. Also, there are AI piloted tanks now.
And a first for the series, some missions actually have different enemy placements on higher diffculties. For most missions, on hard and up they swap out a couple normal enemies with their gold/silver variants.

It's a nice full color manual, and the cover art is reversible. Although it may still pay off to get the digital over physical, because for whatever reason this western version doesn't have an install so the load time isn't near instant like it is on my JP copy of the game. Granted, the disc still has significantly better load times than what we had on ps3, except the american disc has about 8 seconds load time as opposed to the 3 second load time on the installed version.
