People should just play all the yakuza games because they are great. Well except maybe the first. I made the mistake of trying to play the first after finishing the second and it is really bad i had to stop in the middle of it. From the awful dub to the mediocre combat, the first game is the one you can freely skip because the recaps give you all the info you need and the game just isnt that fun.
But if youre trying to get into the series play 2 first because you WILL want more yakuza games once you finish one and going back to an earlier title is really painful because it improved so much.

How long is Yakuza 5? How much time would it take to complete the game, most substories and also quite a few mini games?

The substories are what add longevity to the games, the story by itself can probably be rushed through in 10-15 hours if you do absolutely nothing else. Add the substories and minigames and shit and you'll easily double that.
What does it mean when the minimap suddenly has one of those pulses? I've tried looking around but haven't found anything.
I like how many rude dudes there are now and how many per fight if you let them call backup. Makes it easy to smash a ton of faces when you feel like it.

If you're having trouble with such an easy fight I don't really know what to tell you. Are you making full use of what you're given? Grabs, blocking, finishers, etc. Get heat/move upgrades over health upgrades, some of the early ones are really basic things that go a long way (for instance the leg sweep when you're knocked down). Abuse the fuck out of any objects you can pick up, that shit is overpowered and they can all be used for easy heat moves. Also if you're surrounded by enemies, there's a great heat move you can use if you grab a downed enemy by the leg, it'll hit everyone around you.
Does Haruka have an Amon equivalent?

It's great. Not only does it unobtrusively say "wait, don't pull up the map, you're close", but it tells you to back off if you don't want to trigger story progression. I accidentally got stuck in story a few times early on in 4, so it's nice for the game to warn me.

Does anyone know how to do "Essence of the Dragon" heat action? It says "triangle when final Dragon Spirit combo lands". In Dragon Spirit mode I try to punch like hell but I don't get any triggers from that and looks like it's an endless combo anyway so I don't understand what the final means.

He means essence of terror. You run at a group of 4 enemies and hit heat and you basically teleport between them and fuck them all up. Against basic beginning mooks you'll likely kill all 4 in one essence attack.
When you get the upgrade that gives extra XP for finishing enemies with HEAT attacks Essence of Terror is amazing.
