Start at level 1 and just pick a random direction? You must get slaughtered eventually or you are forced to proceed with stealth only if you have the skills for it.

It bothers me that this game got so much praise from the artsy crowd. As a pretentious asshole myself I find it to be pretty cheap and shallow in the way it tries to get you to feel emotions.

Why are game designers avoiding the obvious solution to this problem? Make the 'morally correct' answer hard to actually do.

>You can do it the hard way and nobody gets hurt
That way when the game guilt trips you for doing the time it actually has a point. You could have done the right thing, but you didn't because it wasn't convenient to you. Rather than doing the only option available to you.

This is what Undertale should have done as well. True Pacifist should have been really, truly difficult while genocide should have been the easiest option. Would have made the Pacifist mean more and provided more incentive to 'give up' like the game tries to talk you into doing.
Still enjoyed it though

spec ops did do that to an extent, when your teammate gets hanged by the mob, you have the choice of shooting into the crowd or the air.
Still i get what you mean, like using white phosphorous was easy but shooting them all and pushing through would have been much harder.

I think the point was that the minute you tried to buy some shitty war shooter for your entertainment (as which it was marketed) you did the wrong thing: wanting to "kill people" for your entertainment.

I find the concept coherent, but I did not play the game so I can't comment on its quality.
Though as far as I know you could sometimes "make your own choices", as in rather than clicking on A or B you could just do a C while still being in full control of your character. Something like you have to shoot a hanging man or let him die, but you could also pick the invisible option of shooting the rope which was not directly stated. (I've only seen this in a review, don't know exactly how it went down, but stuff like that is great. Would be even greater if it has actual consequences, but I am not sure if that is the case in Spec Ops, as I, again, did not play it.)

Chrono Trigger did a great job with invisible choices with the court drama.
