If you are farming for the Crystal without unlocking all B types to get it play one of the rock ships bro. The Rock plating they have 100% guarantees you get the Crystal status pod event rather than potentially not.
Once you get sick of Vanilla FTL/AE seriously go get the captains edition mod - it's crazy good for tons of IMO balanced new content.

Drone are useless because of anti-combat drone and can only pierce one shield if they DO pass the stun. Best bet is to let all 3 weps charge and volley the Ion blast followed 1sec later by both Lasers at the same time all aimed at the Sheild system. Just before oyu volley mind control the Pilot room to up your accuracy, and once the volley is over Power up 1-2 of your drones ASAP if you have 1 shield or less remaining. Engi can repair any damage quick as fuck so if above doesn't work after two tries I'd just run.

Sadly hacking wouldn't work either as the Defence drone 1,2 and anti-drone all target it. You can confuse the Def 2 with lasers, but even if you put out your attack drones to occupy the Ion def that leaves the Def drone 1 to shoot the hacking probe out. Pretty much Flak or git fuk'd sadly. IMO shouldn't be a legal ship combo what you got.
