Well, no. The PS4 is not the better system. It plays games at sub-1080p on low settings, with a silky smooth 24fps instead of 60 or 120 or higher, and with paid online to boot.
But it is perceived as the best of the "plug in and play" systems.

Sure more and more people have adopted the platform but in terms of actual games and proper developer support? It's got nothing and in that sense it is an outright dead platform, it's lifeblood is essentially multiplat console optimized ports, you take those away and nobody touches PC.. That's how fickle the line is between reality and the PC platform.
PC used to be good 10 years ago but it died because good hardware doesn't buy good games and devs worth a dam went elsewhere, under the wing of consoles which properly fund and provide a platform for AAA game development and support.
