Whatever happened to that PerformanceMatters shit that was being shoved around on twitter and such? I haven't really heard of it since it began, or did they just cancel it?
>>

They continue to strike and you don't hear anything of it because it virtually has no impact. Every one of them can be replaced by another person who is equally as good or even better, the only reason the industry has been reluctant to contract fresh VA's is because shitlords who've been etablished in the industry with a portfolio are a safer and easier bet.

Source?

check the union website, tweets of VA's etc. They're still on strike and nobody cares.

/v/'s chimping out made it out to be far bigger than it actually ever ended up being.

Sigh. What were the SJWs upset with this time?

i think you may underestimate the skill it takes to be a good voice actor. Its a very different skill than normal acting since you dont have anything to paly off of, its just you and the mic.

This whole strike thing was a bit overdratic, but they do have a point all the same

what
>>

>they have a point
they want royalties for spending 3-8 hours in a recording booth or mocap studio, it's fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>319338856

Its Labor, not SJWs.

Though both are pretty fucking stupid imo.
>>
>>319337735
What happened is that everyone started to just hire laura bailey, troy baker, and nolan north instead.
>>
They just voted SAG-AFTRA the right to declare a strike, but the union doesn't want to because actors that aren't working aren't getting paid and thus not paying the union.

They were just hoping the threat of a strike would get publishers back to negotiating with them, and who knows if that happened. It takes months for that shit to fall apart and be deemed a failure, so there's not much news about it now.

Voice acting is easier because you don't have to remember a script.
Only hard part is if you are someone like Nolan or Troy who actually have to change their voice for some roles.
Some people never change their voice, like Ashley 'can't act' Birch.

This. Localization companies have to fight tooth and nail for their percentage of the profits from Japanese companies AFTER distribution and storage fees.

Voice actors think they can stroll right in, and take a portion of the overall profits. Probably yet another reason why Japanese companies are trying to back out of localization all of a sudden.

Unions are great if the workers are being oppressed, but in this case, the unions are killing the job market.
>>
>>319338883
I think this is bullcrap. They can just keep doing takes until they get it right.
>>

Good voice actors are abundant, the only reason people like Steve Blum are hired is because they etablished themselves prior to when voice acting was not considered to be a serious job. After raking in a couple of jobs, they snowballed from there regardless of how well they did it before. Who do you think a big company would hire as a regional manager; Someone who has been working for them for 20 years with all the experience necessary and more, or someone who has been working as a manager for 3 months for a big brand. They'll take latter and this is exactly how picking VA works as well. They're contracted for their previous work, not because they are better than someone else. You can take a look at any VA forum, people with 15 years of voice acting experience have to offer their work for free because they simply do not get any contracts.
>>
>>319338217

They didn't decide to strike they said that they would if it came to that.
>>
>>319338658
I like when David Hayter was doing the #performancematters shit.
Someone told him that he has to actually have voice acting jobs in order to strike.
>>
>>319337735
notice how much the internet as a whole gives a fuck?

its just you.

its like a pornstar going on strike, nobody fucking cares.

I should add that it's not like VAs are being paid poorly either. They make $100+ an hour, plus other pay for things I don't completely understand (my /sp/ ass would say something like "signing bonus" but that's not right in this case).
>>
This reminds me of the taxi drivers striking to protest Uber. It just shows the consumer how much you are not needed.
>>
This is labor contract bullshit. They'll throw a fit for a while then both sides will settle. Performancematters was used to encourage a yes vote to authorize a strike. The labor side now has that extra bit of ammo in their contract dispute.

I think the last real big thing that happened was stopping the college sports games since EA was pretty much using the college students including their likeness and just giving them a different name. They stopped that after a lawsuit.
