Should I play Dark Souls?
Alright faggots. I want to play this game pretty bad, but I'm not sure how far I'll make it before I'll snap from anger and frustration, from all I've heard and seen about the game.
Will be playing on PC, and I have Uni to balance into the mix. Will it work, and should I buy it?
Yep, it's my favourite game of all time. Played on PC, but used a 360 controller, keyboard&mouse did not work well.
Whether you should buy it now depends on your college schedule. If it's lighter in a month, I would probably recommend playing it then. Bursts of a couple of hours are sufficient in my opinion, but I'd recommend longer periods.

3-4 hours is enough, it's not like the game requires NEET amounts of commitment. I wouldn't go much shorter than 2 hour bursts, though.
It's really good especially if you're bad at video games because it's actually quite simple although you may rage of the odd intuitive hitbox and stomp damage.
Shield up whenever a new enemy appears a decent shield is op, leveling END is never a wasted level up but upgrading your weapon and is more important.

I did 1-2 hours a night after work every day for my first game, aimed for 1 area/1 boss each day.
It seems really frustrating sometimes, and it is to a degree, but often if a boss seems impossible it's actually a lot more do-able than it seems.
It occasionally goes on sale on steam for $5, I'd wait for that. I'd recommend not pirating it so you can do the multiplayer stuff.
This is pretty much the lamest game ever. Key game mechanics are never explained, you have no idea where to go or what to use without reading a manual, enemies will kill you so fast and you'll have to go really far back with everyone you killed alive again.

I just bucked it up on the 360 and I have to say, the first play through isn't that bad if you know how to play with your stats the right way. That said, I got into it mostly for the lore. The speed and flow of combat especially for bosses took some getting used to and it's definitely a grind fest, but I enjoy it overall.

First playthrough is gonna be harsh on you depending on how you build but the harsher the punishment the quicker you learn. Its gonna make you stop mashing the buttons because it queues some imputs for example. Overall its only considered difficult for one as marketing and two because it nudges casuals into an extremer setting. If you really puss out you can look up average levels for bosses and level acordingly so that you can always summon (n)pcs which makes the game insanely easy.
Is the Steam userbase dead? I'm trying to ravelord just before the gargs, NG+, and I've been here like half an hour and no bites.

Get DSFix, play at 30 FPS (game and DSFix by default cap it at 30, I like to uncap and then enable adaptive half refresh v sync), and use a controller.

Only Seth (the blind dragon or whatever he is called) will be difficult because he and the crystal golems have pretty high magic defense so make one elemental weapon or summon but if you summon consider telling your followers that you want his tail. Also channelers trident is the holy grail if you get it also get the repair weapon spell.

Only part that was really frustatrating for me was Smaugh and Ornstein. My Xbox was offline and I couldn't summon anyone, and the giants before the boss fight were impossible for me so if I summoned Solaire he would be dead or at half health when I reached the boss rendering him useless.
When I can't do something I become obsessed with doing it so I would stay up until sunrise trying to beat them for three days, even missed college but I finally got them after spending about 20-30 hours stuck with them.
The other bosses are all rather easy though.

They were tough solo, but not THAT hard. I beat them in about 10-15 tries. I'm at the Four Kings and loving the game so far.

Actually, I found it quite compelling to try again over and over until I got it right. Maybe I just have a high tolerance for that. I played through F-Zero GX after all. Come to think of it, that's probably harder than Dark Souls.
